Out walking this morning and I notice a fairly good sized owl scampering around on the ground. Didn't take long to figure out the right wing was very badly injured.

Made a few phone calls and got some rescue people to come catch it and take it to a rehabber. I don't expect them to be able to save it, but it's better than leaving it to suffer for several days.

Oh no! Not Big Bird! I hope Bluey isn't next on the chopping block. I watch him every morning with my 3 yo Granddaughter.

Several years ago I found a Galah on the road that had been hit by a car. He was fairly young. I managed to catch him and after a bite or two, sat him on the floor of my car and took him home. His wing wasn't too bad and no bad damage so I put him in our aviary to let him recover. Well after a couple of days that bird fell in love with me so we still have him. He is a real character and now lives in a cage in our lounge-room with our cockatoo. He is a very affectionate bird but couldn't be released as he can't fly very far. He has been outside flying a couple of times but won't go away. He talks and laughs when you play with him. In fact he talks better than the cockatoo. He loves nothing better than sitting on your lap cuddling in. I had planned to take him back where I found him and release him when he got better but other Galahs would probably kill him now.
He is a much loved member of our family now. I call him Rocky as I found him at Rockmount. He knows his name and responds when you talk to him. I think he was meant to find us.

Another time I was driving home on the highway from Brisbane and found a huge eagle that had a broken wing obviously from a vehicle strike. I took off my jacket and covered him and put him in my work vehicle and took him to a vet. Gave them co-ordinates of where I found him and they said if he healed he would be released in the same spot. Man that eagle was huge.

Trying to get wild animals help around here is virtually impossible. Thanks to our WORTHLESS government!

You are not allowed to help a wild animal.
A vet isn't allowed to help a wild animal.
and sanctuaries are few and far away, if they even answer their phone.

It could be said Texas has tree huggers running the wildlife department. On a televised episode of Lone Star Law a game warden rescued a wild hog that had injured himself in a trap and took him to a place for rehab. Because of that silly Hollywood stunt, I haven't watched another episode since.

Nice. Reminds me I wouldn’t know who to call if I encountered to same situation. Need to find that number.
