Reading all this I am now wondering if our cars and trucks are also spying. That XM radio thing and OnStar stuff is pretty smart and tracks your locations. They can unlock your doors remotely.

It isn’t a big jump to think they are listening.

I heard on the news that the police are demanding the "black box" from Tiger Woods SUV. It makes me wonder what was recorded on it, and when did vehicles start having "black boxes"?

Here is some info on car black boxes.

The sheriff needed a warrant to get the black box and needed to show the judge there was a probability a crime had been committed.

That is kind of scary.

I drive a 2012 F150, so I might not have one. I guess it doesn't matter, unless I'm at fault for a crash. With technology changing so quickly, it's just a matter of time until they can record you while you are driving and have that information too. And just like described above, it will be called something for your own safety, which will be used against you in every way possible.

I bought a dash-cam set. Frt & rear 1080p cams, <$150, large touch-screen display with easy menu, park mode, etc & nice for the $$. Hopefully that's enough to cover my six in a pinch.

btw, The way others drive in MI compared to me I'm lucky not to be rear-ended more often. Some are in such a hurry to pass it's almost a game to get out of their way.

Anybody spying on me would have trouble staying awake. :sneaky:

Apple's Siri, which "lives" in various Apple devices in addition to their cell phone, including an iPad that I keep on a coffee table in front of the TV, often imagines it hears its "Hey Siri" wakeup phrase while the TV is on. The screen on the iPad displays a Siri graphic to indicate Siri is active, and usually that's all that happens. But sometimes, Siri will display what it thinks it heard, then go on to fetch something from the Internet and display that as well. The same iPad runs Apple's Home app, so in theory Siri could also toggle lights, fans, the thermostat on the furnace, or even the sprinkler system. But so far, that hasn't been a problem. I've had similar experiences while talking on the phone, where Siri starts talking out of the iPad speaker while I'm trying to listen to the person on the other end of the phone call. Yes, I'd have to agree that voice recognition technology still has a long way to go, but with so many beta testers so willing to contribute to its development, I can't help but wonder why it's taking so long to shake out all the bugs. 😄

The black box is incorporated into the ABS module.

For a while now, cars and trucks have had a "black box" like device that records parameters like speed, engine RPM, and transmission status, very much like the black boxes on aircraft. I'm pretty sure that there have also been court cases where the owners of those cars have sued to prevent that information from being used against them. When it comes to "information technology" it's like one of the VPs of the company I used to work for was fond of saying: "There's a cop on every corner, so if you do something like surf **** on your computer at work, you're gonna get caught."

Try looking at prom dresses for sale on FB markeplace. How come young women didn't look that attractive in my high school days? Homecoming dresses, too. I need to get back to my high school reunion.

A few years back, someone connected their smart lock to Home kit. Neighbour showed him it was a bad idea when he yelled from outside the door "hey Siri, unlock the door" and the door unlocked. It made the news and believe Apple fixed it by preventing a door from being unlocked (I don't have an Apple ecosystem so not sure how they 'fixed' it). My smart lock doesn't allow remote unlocking, just locking and its connection is only local to my Zigbee hub.

Since my wife and I are both retired, a few years ago, our vehicle insurance agent mentioned since we both only drive a few times a week, we could probably get additional discounts on our 5 vehicles if we wanted to allow them to send us 2 modules that plug into the diagnostic ports of our daily drivers so they could verify our driving habits and frequency for a couple of months. I figured, why not, so they sent us the two modules. Very sensitive units that identified exactly what time of day, how far, how fast, and braking habits. I could also go online and see the input we were giving them. My wife, being an animal lover, braked a bit harder than normal 4 times to avoid hitting small wild critters running across our country roads. No complaints about my driving. To make a long story short, they gave us a another 10 % discount. Luckily this was during the winter months, so glad they didn,t ask me to put one in my Monster Miata during the summer, or one of the other summer toys. LOL
