I have a ton of thinning to do on my land, it's amazing how many small 5-10" trees it takes to make a cord, but I estimate that seeing I don't split anything under about 7-8" and that's 1/3rd of the process so probably a fair trade off, at least that's what I tell myself šŸ˜†
This property was cut pretty hard about 18 years ago and there simply is no big wood (hardwood) available anyway, 90% of my thinning is Beech, very respectable in the BTU department.
If all that you have to burn is beech that size then you will have no problem staying warm.

I do mix in a little birch and red maple for the lighter heating work, but the beech really doesn't seem to have a market (from what I've been told) other than mud mats and f/w. I try to leave the better ones with good bark, but I'm sure I preaching to the choir telling you how thick that chit grows.

I had hopes Muhammed would weigh in on the signature line controversy. Maybe he has, no response is a response.

While I am not a church going person, I do have deep convictions. In that respect I agree with Oldpath, if God/Jesus are not welcome here then neither am I.

When God/Jesus are kicked out, really, who is left?

Beach will never get hit by lightning, does that apply when it is stacked in a woodpile ??

Is that "a thing"? I have not heard that before, no wonder we have very little lightning or thunderstorms round here šŸ‘.
In the summer, we could almost count on a daily afternoon t-storm down
in the mid-Atlantic area when we lived there.

During the winter I cut Spruce and Fir stud wood which is worth $325 per 1K Board Feet now locally. The weatherman is going to shut me down real soon so I thought I would show a few pics of how it goes.

I cut when I can (this winter was good) and skid out wood to make logs with a minimum top diameter of 6" and a minimum length of 12' plus 6" of trim which are the specs. I cut mostly 12's and a few 14's. When I get about a 1K board feet on the landing like this yesterday afternoon I ship it on the next good day weather and road wise.

It takes a couple of trips to the log yard 7.5 miles away. 5 miles on back gravel roads and 1.5 miles on State Hwy 5.
I took this load late yesterday afternoon. It was 30 degrees but with the sun it was starting to get soft in spots.

P1000932.JPG

Then this morning when things were froze up solid again I loaded the second load.

P1000934(1).JPG

It looked pretty much like the first one except the sun was on the other side.

P1000935(2).JPG

When I got to the log yard he told me to dump it in front of the loader on the upper section up close the the pile. When I took the picture my back was against a pile of spruce/fir about 20' high.

I took a pic of the lower section ,which is similar and in the back ground above, because the sun was at a better angle.

Right now it is 50 degrees and the south and west facing town gravel roads are softening up fast.
