Beavers !!!!!!!!

For years the Game Dept here in WA used dynamite. Nothing more than a spectacular display of aerial debris. Some times the dam reconstruction began the very same evening as the destruction. It took a while but they learned - - trapping & relocation.

Many years ago, some people were walking in a state park near hear and came across a bangalore torpedo in and old beaver dam. Apparently, the parks department used them decades before to clear beaver dams and were not too good at accounting for their explosive devices at the end of the day.

There was mention of trapping and relocating.
Yeah! give somebody else the problem.
We never had grey or black squirrels in this area until urban tree huggers demanded humane removal of their problem so we have it now.

I ask, would U relocate a mouse or rat?
Well a beaver is just a big rodent AND it has no known predator so its population simply expands.

B4 Bardot, beaver pelts were in world demand but she stopped all that. Now even the British guards have synthetic beaver hats.

Seems like they could use some good old fashion accounting and inventory controls!

Just spitballing here but what constitutes something as “damaged” and a “nuisance”when it’s local wildlife in their natural habitat?
I think you have hit a home run here, Aquamoose. Too many folks thinking the Mother Nature and her animals MUST CONFORM to what they want.

Up here they sometimes relocate problem beavers in summer, putting them in a different body of water so that trappers can catch them in winter. It's a service provided by the USFS which the landowner pays for.
I suspect that often the beaver are caught the second time by the same trapper we paid to relocate them just a few months earlier.

Back in the 40's or 50's Canada gave Chile or Argentina a bunch of beavers in a goodwill exchange, a few years ago I read an article about some village in the mountains got flooded due to a large beaver dam breaking lose up stream of the village. They were cursing the Canadian's for giving them such destructive animals and asked Canada to take back the beavers. Haha

I have a book here someplace about a couple who moved to BC around the turn of the last century Three Against the Wilderness
to make a living subsistence trapping. At that time the beaver had been completely wiped out and it told of what they went through rebuilding old dams to bring the water back until they finally convinced the provincial government to bring them a couple of breeding pairs. (or should that read "A couple of breeding pair?" Neither way sounds quite right.)

No trouble here.

Mind you, I've got a special rock (bought online from a 'Certified' African Witch Doctor) that keeps tigers away... It really works as I haven't seen one tiger since I got it. Maybe it works for beavers too. (y)

Couple nights ago I was watching NCAA basketball, Beavers vs Cougars.
My wife asked me who I wanted to win. I told her I like beaver, but Cougars have more experience.
