If you don't mind, What was the price?
Did you get double the warranty just by purchasing 6 bottles of Stihl oil?

Stumps or at least the part near the ground can be hard on chains because there's more dirt, which is an abrasive. I save my oldest chains for flush cutting stumps, or do it at the end of a session and then sharpen the chain before the next use.

As far as I know, I paid list published price....with some difference on a 20 inch bar and chain vs 18 inch listed. ...Yeah and the extra 6 pack of HP Ultra bar/chain oil...to double the warranty......about $600

After you have cut some with it you'll have to let us know what you think of it.

Congrats, Oddballs. That's a great saw.

Note that it can take a few tanks of gas run through it before the saw really wakes up and makes full power. so you may notice a difference between your first cuts and how it runs down the road (though a dull or poorly-sharpened chain can more than make up the difference between a brad new and a broken in saw.)

I assume the 261 is very similar to the 260. If that is so you have a great saw. I have had a 260 for several years and it has been excellent. Lite weight and plenty of power.

I hope to salvage the 16" & 20" bar and the corresponding chains from the MS290 to use on the new saw. The air filter is a whole different thing....but the spark plug is the same. Thanks for the tips and especially the tip on the break in performance.

Now........if it will just quit raining.

Cheers,
Mike
