Hey Dude, if you need a trench 3 feet deep and 300 feet long are you going to use a stick with a piece of metal at the end, a hydraulically powered scoop, or pay somebody else to do it?How have we gotten tougher?

Well, I would have to use a shovel. Not because I am so tough, just because I have nothing bigger and cannot afford to hire someone.Hey Dude, if you need a trench 3 feet deep and 300 feet long are you going to use a stick with a piece of metal at the end, a hydraulically powered scoop, or pay somebody else to do it?
My uncle bought a place back home in Montana from a guy whose dad got mad when the son got a tractor mounted ditcher to clean ditches.Hey Dude, if you need a trench 3 feet deep and 300 feet long are you going to use a stick with a piece of metal at the end, a hydraulically powered scoop, or pay somebody else to do it?
THAT's Tough!!!!My uncle bought a place back home in Montana from a guy whose dad got mad when the son got a tractor mounted ditcher to clean ditches.
The dad was tougher than nails he hand dug a waterline trench about a 1/2 a mile long below frost/freezing line, on a place that’s at more than 5,000 feet of elevation.
Yes, we are getting softer. It's not even worth discussing.Has America gone soft? YES, in my opinion. There are many examples of this and few of how we are getting tougher.
Example: I was listening to sports talk radio last week about how managers remove pitchers from games no matter how well they are pitching by “pitch counts”.
Back in the 50’s, Warren Spahn pitched 16 innings straight, 200 pitches, back when there was only a FOUR MAN rotation. Now there’s a 5 man rotation and pitchers being pulled at ~100 pitches!
Keep in mind, pitchers now have more rest, much better physical therapy and much better drugs to combat pain.
Curious as to your examples of “the wussification of America”.

How have we gotten tougher?
Way tougher than I ever dreamed of being!!!THAT's Tough!!!!
I don't think that's because ball players are getting softer; rather, owners are looking to protect their "investment". When they're paying top wages for a player, they don't want to risk putting him on the DL.
The people causing this are mostly media types and their brainless acolytes. It’s now the IL.
Use of DL was deemed insensitive.
Nope - we ain’t getting softer.

They've always been this way, it's just that now they have more influence. Too much influence. Way too much.
It's also a form of thought-control. Nobody snicker, okay?
If you can control what people say, the words they can and can't use, you control their thoughts.
We 'Think' in words. We don't 'think' in pictogaphs or hieroglyphs...... We think in words.
When you formulate a plan to do -- Anything, you form it using words. It's one reason why language is so important. It is why language IS culture.
And if people can change the way you speak, they change the way you think.
If they let you think at all.
