Recently bought myself a JD 1640 with leaking up the steering column, i have removed the steeringwheel and large nut and when i put the steering wheel on again and try to turn it CCW it wont come out so i can replace those 6 seals in the column, tips as to what i might be doing wrong?

Post some pics of what you are attempting to do, and likely some guidance will be forthcoming from the TBN members.

How many rounds CCW did you turn steering wheel while attempting to disassemble steering components? It takes several rounds. I guess 6 or more rounds is required.

I turned the wheel all the way to the left on the tractor and have attempted to pull CCW to get it off but its just tight, does it need to be set all the way to the right before attempting? Attached picture of the top of the steering column which i want to get out so i can replace them leaky orings

IIRC with large adjusting nut removed the shaft should turn but frt wheels should not turn. How many rounds(CCW) have you turned shaft? IIRC it requires 6+ rounds. One must unthread shaft(item 1) out of rod(item 19)

The wheels turn when i turn the steeringwheel when i put it back on and the large nut is also removed so the wheels still turn when i try to wind it off

Are you positive you're turning steering shaft (CCW) to the left??

Aye, started the tractor up and moved the wheel to the center, still no big nut on but i moved it there, shut it off and i try to move the wheel to the left CCW as you say but it still moves the tires and even if i try really hard it will just move the tires, do i need to open the panel by the gas pedal and disconnect the socalled dog bone?

If I was going to go to the trouble of disconnecting the dog bone I just proceed with laying the complete valve assembly on a workbench for disassembly.
