Years ago the son of one of my parent's employees was killed when a cinder block failed while he was under a car.

I went past my neighbor's house and noticed he was under his car, which was supported by cinder blocks. I turned around and returned home, cut a couple chunks of hemlock off a tree I'd just felled and brought them to him. "Thanks" he said. "But if they will support a mobile home they will hold up a car."
Even the hemlock isn't perfect, I believe that a TBN member was killed when an implement fell on him after the wood supporting it split.

There are concrete blocks and cinder blocks. Cinder are weaker. The strength is turned the other direction.
