The most powerful Gott arrived at Two Harbors this morning in high winds and snow. Why does he have his rear spot light on?

I thought I saw that rear spot light move. Maybe a visual check of his stern clearances. His swing might have put the stern pretty close to the near shore.

You are correct Rolf. If you go to Two Harbors cam in the daylight hours you'll see the boats stern is close to the break water.

Yes and no. The Soo looks close soon and will be for maintenance, same as they do each year. The lower lakes are warmer and do not officially close and some boats keep working. The Algoma corporation likes to keep a few going and maybe other companys do as well.

Do they close the locks around Niagara, too?

Here is a old film made by the state of MI about the building of our Lift bridge found here. Watching it, I learned that guys went into pressurized underwater casements to excavate them out. This was quite the project. During it, they also show the waterway they are crossing.
