I guess I came on a little strong. I just get a little uptight when know someone is lying and has an agenda that is so thinly veiled. Best wishes Comrade Bubba to you and your fellow ComuNazis!
that's fine, what i like about the forum is the exchange of ideas that sometimes is different from one's own. hopefully in a respectful way. i will be the 1st to say i haven't always been that way :) i just made a safety observation (subjective of course) about today's pickups in regard to close quarter pedestrian situations. didn't mean to tread on your core beliefs. take care along the way, enjoy the new year

I used to drive a convertible that was pretty good at towing.

I agree with Big Bubba, I see a lot of "mall cruisers" in full size pickups that they do not need for any good reason. It's wasteful and stupid and harmful to the environment. A four wheel drive Tacoma or similar is plenty for the hobby farmer or weekend adventurer.
To bad. I never presumed to tell other people "What they need." But I will say that a Tacoma (while is a nice truck) will not haul my tractor when I need to move it. So I guess it is better if I buy a Tacoma and a full size . I have always been respectful of what OTHER PEOPLE wanted to fit THEIR needs. NOT what I thought they needed to fit THEIR purposes. I would imagine that there are some Smarcar people that might think you don't need Tacoma to be a "mall cruiser." Maybe it is not STUPID for people to purchase one vehicle to meet ALL their needs. I am somewhat surprised that you feel that YOU are the judge of others and what they need.

In 2018 I decided to buy a small truck so I went down and bought a Toyota Tacoma, just "like" the one I owned 20 years earlier. As I drove it for a while, it became more and more obvious there was nothing small about this truck. Worse yet, it got no better mileage than my old 1 ton Dodge. It took less than a year for me to figure out it was pointless to own two large trucks, so the Toyota went down the road. They just don't make small trucks anymore. All political BS aside, I would like to have a small truck, but unless I want to buy one that is 20 years old, I just can't. Seems strange to me.
So true. The days of the Chevy S10, Ford Ranger, Bronco II are gone. We looked for a mid sized truck. But they are not hardly any smaller, do not have the tow capacity and cost about the same as a full size. A Tacoma has the best longevity rep. The Canyon is a beautiful truck. The Ford Ranger just came out here I think. There is also a Nisson Frontier. The Chevy Colorado is also nice truck. All are still large. Most have a tow capacity of 3500, unless in the case of GMC Canyon I think, increases to 6000 with a diesel engine. But all are not really much smaller.

If a thread ever needed closing this is one.

So now with the credibility of the entire "article" tainted just go back and delete the entire thread. It is just a load of unnecessary pot stirring anyway.

Any argument with perceived relevance is fine as long as it defends, or preferably: can hide criticism of, the in the USA (and Canada?) "bigger is always better and wasting is even more so" mentality that has been overrunning any reasoning already since I can remember as a kid, and that by now is longer ago than that the majority of you here have lived.

I am aware that preaching introspection won't make many friends for me in the States, except maybe big bubba.

I just got censored for my comments for disagreeing with BigBubba. What a jerk!

That is a given. My point is that the primary cause of the accident and the damage had absolutely nothing to do with the size of the given vehicles involved. An inattentive driver in a Smart Fortwo will do infinitely more damage than an aware and attentive driver of a jacked up big tired Dodge diesel dually pulling a 9 ton trailer. It isn't the vehicle, it's the loose nut behind the wheel.
The original article cited made reference to where a taller vehicle strikes a pedestrian, and claimed that more grievous injuries were caused because of it. Avoid running over people, and you'll be fine.
The link to the article was there originally, however, it had to be removed because of a bunch of nekked peoples on that website.
DARN! I missed again! :p

Actually towing capacity of a V-6 Colorado is 7000 lbs. Ford Ranger is up to 7500 lbs, Tacoma is up to 6800 lbs.

One thing I've never been able to figure out; basic auto registrations here are for up to 6000 lbs. How can a pickup which weighs 5300 lbs empty and has a payload of 1500 lbs be registered as a car?

Thanks for the info. That is more appropriate for their size today. We looked at them in 2018 when we bought a truck. Did not look at them when we got the 2021. The mid size trucks are very nice, I think my favorite is the GMC Canyon.
