I have a personal commitment that my farm will be a better farm in 2022 than it was in 2021. Erosion control. Plant life that increases small game population. Improving structure efficiency. Improving equipment efficiency to minimize fuel use. Improving my personal health with more exercise. Otherwise, not much.
Yep...same here. Yesterday, the neighbor guy called up and said he needed help with his old snow plow. The pivot hole wore and the bolt pulled through the edge (came apart). He ran to Ace for hardware while I did the fab work and welding. It should easily last him the rest of his days and he was grateful for the help. Sure, I missed part of the Packer game (no loss there) but I helped a neighbor in need. Maybe if we would all "help".

Ukraine is the country of sleeping agricultural potential especially from technology point of view. The companies which will create machinery for them will prosper. And not only huge machines.

There are hardworking and creative people there, they love their fertile land, they know how to cultivate it. There are favorable geographical conditions in Ukraine with a stable comparatively warm continental climate.

If politics and wars would not interfere, this country would prosper better than Poland today. Ukraine as well as three other countries were feeding the former USSR.
I don't even know though, do they really need these behemoth machines in Ukraine? Every "village" as they call their suburbs there, everybody there has a 2-wheeled tractor they use to farm the living crap outta the land...either in their own yards or out in the field. You should see their harvest of potatoes alone, crazy huge! Even my grandma living in an apartment, she had a garden in the field next to it, along with a bunch of other residents there.

Bill Maher, spot on. I came from a Nordic country in the late 90's, and saw the bickering and squawking about silly stuff going on in this country. I've seen great decline just in the 24 years I've been here now. Wearing slippers and PJ's in public, reality shows........BS content on TV. Nobody knows their history......yeah, it is not looking great.
As an immigrant myself, I agree with all that, but...this thread is gonna go to locksville if we don't get back to tractor talk.

I'm Blessed with very good neighbors. All younger than I. They look out for me without intruding, just like I did when I had old neighbors.

Yes, as the OP, I request no more politics, please! It has been a great thread otherwise!

There is no room for politics in hydraulics, just barely room for a bit of air. :)

With the millions hectares of steppes and 25 % of the world's reserves of black soil Ukraine is one of the biggest agricultural production exporter in the World. It could be even bigger, if its agriculture would be modernized. The "villages" you're talking about do not count.
Couple of links here to Google: Does Ukraine have good agriculture?; Ukraine can feed the world.

In my opinion America shouldn't think how great or not very it is. Remember, nothing lasts forever. The whole West (Japan, Australia, Taiwan and many more smaller ones including) should unite and all together do the best to remain strong and prosperous. I agree, the U.S. is the leader and must remain as such. There are many countries in Europe which despite their accession to the EU are proud to be an ally of the United States in all fields of activity, not only in military. I mean there shouldn't be a competition in strategy, but it should remain in tactics (business, technology...). Maybe something new could be created, for instance quantum computer, which could help to put next steps in development, or something to protect the World from aggressiveness and cruelty. Maybe completely new, safe and effective source of energy. Who knows?...

Ukraine and the USA are strategic partners. Both are collaborating in space technologies. Why wouldn't in the other activities?
Just my thoughts. :)
Hope, nothing written would be treated as political.

Well, what I'm saying is, you just don't see too many huge farms in Ukraine requiring mega equipment, largely because there's all that small scale farming going on. You could get organic produce pretty cheap there, coz every babushka's village is growing it, and then they haul it off to the market. But if you mean for export, I guess.

My Google translation from General characteristics of the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine:

"Agricultural production in Ukraine splits approximately evenly between private farmers (52.7%) and corporate and state farms (47.3%). At the same time, the corporate sector produces the bulk of export products.

There are 152 farms in the country with a minimum area of 10,000 hectares; the largest farm has an area of 530,000 hectares, which is more than twice the area of Armenia.

The strategic goal is to unite 70% of smallholders in cooperatives; special attention is paid to the development of the important dairy sector, where smallholders account for the majority.
"

I do not know which one of the mentioned above could be attributed "babushka's" farm to, but certainly not to the smallholder, because the latter is still much bigger. :)

Wouldn't this be a very important resource for Russia? Ukraine I mean.
