The $100,000 probably comes from you need a state crew of 12 men to plant it, water it, trim it, erect erosion barriers, do grading, drainage, erect fencing and a memorial plaque honoring the former tree. This is after a survey and environmental impact study needs to completed. Then there’s a pathway that needs to be paved in case a disabled arborist needs access.

$100k isn’t near enough for a tree of that size. That is being extremely generous.

Considering that it was around a hundred years old and “may” live to be 200, the court battle will likely last longer than the tree would have.
Especially since it was a roadside planting, which doesn’t help the longetivity. I’m surprised they were able to sell it, trees growing that way are often full of iron and other junk which disagree with saw blades.

I get almost constant inquiries to cut my 152 acres of old growth hardwood trees. They all get round filed or deleted. Only person that cuts on that ground is me and only dead fall for the campfire when we go up there.

If that happened to me, I'd be one, extremely miffed and two I'd retain a good mouthpiece.

Government waste at it's finest.

How is it government waste? It’s no secret the government takes destruction of park property seriously. It should be no surprise they’re prosecuting for cutting one of the largest trees in the state.

Because the compensation isn't on par with the loss.
