Big Cars are killing Americans

Ford transit connect work van I drive has that same feature.
I wished my F550 service truck, and the F550 flat bed had that feature.

They both have the no idle in them, so if the vehicle is in park, they shut off.

The issue I have with it, is if your on the side of the interstate, blocking a lane on a road, or some other place where you need the beacon lights. The beacon lights will kick off once the truck shuts down

Thats a huge safety hazard. The work around in my service truck, is it won't shut off if I engage the PTO.

The work around in the flat bed delivery truck is a tub of hand cleaner wipes wedged between the brake pedal and a rib in the floor board to keep the brake pedal engaged

This thread can only devolve into the political as it is based upon an article pushing a particular political agenda. It is also in the wrong section as this is about tractor safety, not pickup trucks.
OK, still waiting for the devolve.......and the move.........

There is a button you can push to disable the auto engine shutdown on the F150s. You have to press it every time you start the truck though.

Wifes car has that feature. After a few days it becomes second nature to press that button after starting the car.
I'll have to admit that I had serious doubts about that stop/start feature, and maybe someday I'll still get unhappy with it, HOWEVER, after more than 5 years and 47,000 miles it's performed flawlessly on our Ford Escape. The ONLY time I've used that button to disable the auto shutdown feature is when I expect to be waiting an excessive length of time, usually at a traffic light, in very hot weather, and I want the A/C going full strength. :ROFLMAO:

Gotta wonder about the negative impact on the batteries, starter and related with all that stopping & starting.

Yep, I've sure wondered about those things myself, but nothing yet.

Wife and I have not been able to adjust to that auto shutdown feature.

Wife and I both had beaters for a long time in our younger years. So a vehicle quitting meant you were stranded

Neither one of us can get over the panic attacks that kick in when the vehicle shuts down on it's own

The auto off at stop lights feature I mentioned on the Ford transit connect van has to be turned off each time you start the vehicle. So, hop in, put seat belt on, foot on brake, turn key, start van, push button, drive! I made it a habit in about a week. Now it's automatic.

I read somewhere that the 30 minute idle shutoff can be disabled as well, but from the settings in the touch screen, and I think it said you have to do that each time the key is shut off as well.

Some of the auto stop-start systems don't use the starter and battery. They fire one of the cylinders to start the engine.

Bruce, does the engine always stop with a cyl at TDC and full compression? They're 180 CS deg apart in a four. How would that 'no-starter' idea work otherwise? Asking for a friend.

My Ram has same annoying thing (auto idle shut down), but I have a feature where idle can be increased while in park with e brake on for doing jump starts. You use the cruise control buttons to raise idle. I have done this while charging tractor batteries and have high- idled for 15 minutes no problem.

Does Ford have that feature.
