John Deere 3120
Can anyone tell me the procedure for the above adjustment on a 3120? Sometimes when moving the control arm all the way back (up position) the the engine sounds like its loading up and there is a loss of power. Moving the lever down a little and back up sometimes clears the problem. It seems to be worse when it's cold.

Sound to me that the upper limit stopscrew came loose.
To adj that the rockshafthousing needs to come off.

Think there is an external adjustment to provide lift arm feedback. Just needs to respond a bit sooner. My 4300 was very close, and just a fine adj. of that arm corrected the problem.
Procedure is in the service tech manual, if it is not in the operators manual.

Think there is an external adjustment to provide lift arm feedback. Here is the 3120 adj. rod (key #28) on the left side under the seat area. Watch that linkage as the arms come up and should be able to see that an adj. in the nuts to extend that arm a bit longer will make a difference.. stopping the lift arms sooner.

Sounds like rockshaft is hitting it's limit but wants to go farther and hydraulic pressure builds (engine loads) until the relief valve opens. Slightly lowering control lever stops it from wanting to go beyond its limit. There's threads on here where some series of Deere had a problem where if rockshaft was left at this position, the relief valve would overheat oil to where fuel tank would melt.

I did a big service on it today, transmission oil and fuel filters. When i started it, it was bogging the engine when all the way up. The adjustment linkage was fairly easy to access so I tried that. It took about 1/3 turn in and solved the problem.
Thanks to everyone for their help.

BTW, I found that a 17mm flare fitting wrench handy to access the locknut.

It is a John Deere, however according to the parts list from JD there are two different configurations of this model. The one I have is classified as a Compact Utility Tractor.

so i have the same issue. i have shortened the arm as far as it will go and problem is still there. i am wondering if the angle on the lift arm are to extreme? anyone have an answer?
thx

No answer, but suggest you rig up a shorter connection to test out your theory that "as far as it will go" is the right direction.

Without looking further into it on my 4300, I'm thinking lengthening the arm is the direction that will shut off the valve linkage sooner and stop the lift arms from raising further.
I may have the thought wrong, but figure it out with your set-up.
