Terry it would be nice for cleanup, but it bothers my knees so I'm not planning on a concrete floor (yet)

Ehhh, once you get a nice layer of sawdust on the concrete slab, it will feel like walking on something softer!!Terry it would be nice for cleanup, but it bothers my knees so I'm not planning on a concrete floor (yet)![]()
Mistake one is not looking up two he crossed over the rear of the tree. I’ve been hit years ago leaving the stump by a widow maker across the hard hat and shoulder knocking me out for a bit. Since then I stay closer to the stump and look up to access what possible hazards are overhead. The biggest thing is never cross the stump when making an exit it’s a good way to make a good day go bad. Here is a close call with a widow maker.
I don't follow what you mean by crossing the stump. He appeared to me to escape back away from the stump. Can you explain further please?Mistake one is not looking up two he crossed over the rear of the tree. He crossed the back side of the stump instead of leaving from the same direction as where he was cutting from.I don't follow what you mean by crossing the stump. He appeared to me to escape back away from the stump. Can you explain further please?
That is a good trick to know. I have been caught surprised before by such a tree while skidding out a trail used many times before. On occasion the forks are too wide and get jammed, pulling the front end of tractor up requiring a fast clutch step. I then cut one fork and re connect with another choker. Cutting it part way through and letting it fold back is a great idea.Going back into where I've cut pockets of fir earlier this winter and cutting the stuff that will never be anything but junk.

While we still have snow if it looks like firewood I pull it out. On this beauty I cut the splayed out limbs on the left 2/3 thru on the outside of the crotch so they would fold back w/o falling off if they got pinched to hard on the skid out.

Since I do a lot of tree moving with 4-wheeler instead of tractor, I do this trick often. The 4 wheeler fits everywhere, & is much faster, but what I gain in speed, I give up a lot of mass & therefore traction. Even small branches can snag & slow or stop progress, so making the skid as streamlined as possible is necessary. Good tip GG, I guess I just do it & don't even think about other people not doing it.I cut the splayed out limbs on the left 2/3 thru on the outside of the crotch so they would fold back w/o falling off
