They seem upset that almonds get exported, so they want to pass a law against the weather. We have no idea how long the dry years will last. Meanwhile, existing water laws are handling the shortage well. Some farmers are losing their shirts. It happens. Welcome to the weather. We could as easily end up with Sacramento under 10' of water, which happened in 1862.

What part of the Drinking Water sign did you miss? You can buy water at the supermarket. It's not like you can afford to irrigate with it. Rural people have different priorities than urbanoids.
If there were enough desalination plants......you could irrigate with it.......expensive....sure....needed....you betcha. We need to think different......old ways are no longer working.

Desalination of ocean water is extremely expensive to bring to a drinking water standard, and if you used the stuff treated to drinking water standards for irrigation, you would add so much salt to the soil that it would be worthless for groaning crops in about ten to fifteen years.

Lets just stop growing things....stop eating??? Maybe do more rain dances.

It looks like this year's drought will be worse than last year. 71% of the continental US is in drought conditions.

I wouldn't call us Drought yet. But we are dry. Will go into planting season in 3 weeks. Very little subsoil moisture. Locals are a bit nervous.

Our river just got back into it's riverbanks. It had escaped for a few weeks. Hopefully it will dry out now.

Decades ago I was reading a report regarding water on our Planet. It stated there's always the same amount. It just moves around.

How do you like those beef prices? Stocker operations sold off their herds last year because there was no pasture or hay. They have worked their way through the feedlots, and it will be a couple years after the drought ends before supply catches up. My neighbor runs beef, and his hay crop last year was cut by 50%. He really had to thin his herd. You are lucky to live in the 1/3 of America that has had rain.

They have been griping at people for decades to eat less red meat. It looks like $7/lb. chuck roast will finally do that.

Neighbor just told me she paid $3000 for a grain fed beef, butchered, cut, packaged and frozen. Sounds about right...:(

We paid $4.11 p/lb of meat in the freezer.

I might have to go elk hunting this year. Don’t eat a lot of meat anymore.

(Then again, I don’t eat a lot of anything anymore. Managing diabetes kind of forces you to be aware of what your eating, and a continuous glucose monitor that “alarms” every five minutes until you get back in range, anytime you go high, giving instant feedback, dissuades you from eating wrong.)

But, I do like 6 or 7 ounces a couple of times a week.

We don't have health issues but also don't eat a LOT of red meat. We split the beef with family and only got a quarter. That will last us a year or more.

They're talking new dust bowl. Rainfall in the southern part of the Midwest is almost nonexistent. I'm dealing with extreme drought where I live too, and am setting up used above ground pools to store enough water to grow a garden this summer.

We paid $2.90 that included processing for a 1/4 last week. I do give the farmer that raised it some of my hay.

So he gave you the beef and you paid processing?
