Had to laugh. I'm 78 and haven't "hit the target" in 5 years. Ha
I don't clean my dads bathroom, my wife does, and she does it without complaining.

To be honest, my wife doesn't find it funny that my dad can't hit the "target" ;)

My coworkers dad is in the hospital at age 80, doesn't look good. I told him (co worker) in the grand scheme of things, going out when you can still do what you need to do isn't such a bad thing. God forbid we all end up in nursing homes and can't take care of ourselves.

If you have prostate issues, you'd appreciate a nice warm seat VS standing there peeing dribbles on your toes in the middle of the night. ;)

From what you mentioned, my wife would guess my dad may have prostate issues...

Thing is, at what point in life do things just break down on your body that can be fixed, but isn't "worth the squeeze"?

I can understand your wife's feelings. But now I am smiling - I think I have sufficient reason to believe she had not experienced ""missing target." Ha. She is a trooper.

Dribble - I know that guy. I guess the answer is tamsulosin or Urolift. I am not sure the second one is fun to do.

I took tamsulosin for about a year, but can't take it anymore, as it gave me some other issues that I prefer not to go in to. I take alfuzosin. Seems to work OK for now.😛

Better living through chemistry. 🤣

For me, that's a personal question that only the individual can answer until they can no longer make decisions for themself.

For example, my dad was dying from multiple myeloma. He was fighting it. In my opinion, he was suffering greatly. He was laying there drowning in his own fluid in his lungs. I told him if he was my dog, I'd have put him down a few weeks ago. He laughed and said it's not so bad yet. I told him to let me know if it got too bad to bear and I'd take care of him. He said OK. A couple weeks later he'd had enough and let me know. He let the doctors know it was OK to modify his living will and put a do not resuscitate order on him, and he passed the next morning. He gave it a good, honorable fight with dignity, and that was his final lesson to me. (it seems to be a little dusty in here! :) )

Agree. I have always said that when the time comes that someone has to change my diapers I am checking out. The quality of life issue will control my decision.

I think it depends on your mental capacity. I'm no Stephan Hawking, but if my brain still worked and I was enjoying life, and had the means to pay someone to take care of me, and not make my wife do it, I'd stick around a bit longer.

Understood. Thing is, it was just about 7 years ago at age 84 my father was complaining that he no longer is going to try to get in 36 holes in one day LOL

He fractured his back around 86 trying to fix his mower, and that was the turning point for him.

For a guy who has traveled the world and worked part time into his late 70's, it's killing him living in our basement.

Added reality is since my mom died 20 years ago and now he's "stuck" with us, lets just say he can't wait to see her again.

I was on the phone the other week talking with my 95 year old uncle (no wife, no kids) who is stuck in a nursing home. All he was doing was complaining (for 30 minutes) that he's stuck looking at 4 walls and just basically watches TV. I was thinking to myself, that's basically what my dad does now.

For myself, it may not be having someone to change my diapers, but having no one in my life, being stuck in a nursing home.

That's one thing my dad doesn't get because he can get cranky. He's with us because we love him.
