What is your planned uses Arly? I don't consider 740 inch pounds to be exceptional. You need to fire up your laptop and go to You Tube and 'Torque Test Channel' and watch their very careful tests of various cordless impact guns and then decide. I let their first article tests decide for me what I purchase.

I'm an air person for the most part and I purchased the Astro Pneumatics Thor 1/2" impact on their recommendation and it's a frigging beast. Waited 2 months for it. Was worth the wait too. On 135 pounds of air with 5/8 air line and high flow couplers, it makes in the excess of 1300 foot pounds break away and just shy of 1000 foot pounds tightening. Nice (quiet) wrench too. Gave my noisy IR Thundergun away.

I also have the Bauer 20 volt 1/2" impact and it's no nut buster by a long shot but it does a satisfactory job. I rarely use an impact to tighten a fastener, only to break them. Far as the Thor is concerned, if it won't break a fastener loose, it will twist the nut off so long as the socket don't crack.

So far, I've split Snap On, MAC and SK Wayne impact sockets no problem. Only ones that have not failed are the HF black oxide impact sockets of all things. Not broken one yet and I whale on them with no mercy.

Looking for a makita 1/2 impact like the ones seen below. Which one these do you guys like?

Surely, 740 inch pounds is a typo? That converts to 61 foot pounds and just seems lame for a $300 tool.

Believe that would be 740 foot pounds. I f you scroll down in listing it states foot pounds. I have the 3/4 drive version of that model. Very happy with it. Never failed to loosen nut yet of any size i have tried

I just acquired a 40vlt 3/4" drive makita. You gotta watch it or it will pop your wrist. Retailed around the 500ish range. But work supplied it.

730ftlbs breaking force seems like a lighter duty model for an 18vlt brushless 1/2" impact.

I have a Mac 1/2" impact that's rated for 1,100ft/lbs breaking force. 900 tightening. This gun is identical to the Dewalt 20 vlt heavy duty. That retails for around $340ish. Guns going on 5 years old and used daily for tightening and lossening large nuts and bolts.

Coworker has the light duty 1/2" Dewalt gun the retails for around $260. Less if you wait for a sale. Great for changing tires and most of your needs. And has a similar rating as the makita your looking at.

$300 seems a little steep in my book for the makitas with that rating. Especially if it's 700ft/lbs breaking force.

Edit: I checked the specs and looks like it's similar to that rating for my impact. 1100 breaking force, 700 tightening.

I say go for it, and try it.

Thanks, that makes more sense!

So far on TTC, nothing has exceeded the Thor (air or electric) for nut busting or bolt breaking torque. It's very light too with no heavy Li Ion battery. I usually have it on setting 2 (of 3) because on 3 at 135 psi, it's insane. Astro Pneumatic makes some dandy air tools. It is CFM hungry though so it don't perform with a small compressor and it needs large diameter air line and high flow couplers.

My "Go To" cordless tools are the Makita 18 volt XLT series. Compact and Sub Compact impact drivers and drills. I still use 1/2" Air Cat pneumatic for the tough stuff.
