A good friend of mine has a new Cadillac Lyriq coming in. He told me that an OnStart subscription is now part of the purchase for the term of his lease. He didn't use works like mandatory, forced, required, etc. I guess it doesn't matter, if he wants the car he is going to also pay for OnStar.Bought two GM cars (Trax and Trail Blazer) and don't pay for On-star. Where do you get this "forced to purchase" stuff?
How he explained it to me is that part of the OnStar feature is also providing the vehicle with an internet connection for navigation, weather, and gas/fuel pricing in the area you are driving. Seems like it is doing the same thing we can do with Andriod Auto or Carplay with our smartphones connected to the vehicle's display (basically free). I should have asked him what the monthly charges are but didn't think of it at the time. Since the subscription is embedded in the cost of the vehicle he may not know.
If you search the Internet for something like "is gm forcing onstar subscriptions", it looks like Buick, GMC, and Cadillac are the initial targets. From what I've read, there is a large amount of customer push-back.
