I’m diabetic. Best case scenario is 90-days if I just refilled my insulin.

I have enough food for me to make it 90-days. Mostly freeze dried or MCW MREs. Creek on the corner of the lot runs year round.

We have been told all our lives that "National Interest" was important. But what does that mean? We readily send people in to harms way for "National Interest."
And they also believe in it. But what is it.... this "National Interest." Was it that we want to be the protectors of republics and democracies, and Kingdoms, or is it just all Geo-political. Why did we fight a war in Kuwait? Why did we fight a war in Iraq? Why did we fight a war in Afghanistan? What was the point to it all? Trillions of dollars were spent. Trillions of dollars that we could have used at home for infrastructure and universal heath care. And we are doing the same thing if you vote one way or the other. Its hopeless for the common citizen to say any thing.
We will be at war with China, because we are the only nation to see Taiwan as independent: For "National Interest" reasons. Explore what those reasons are. Come up with your own opinion, as is asked of you, in this, sort... of democracy.

Perpetual war is something that was invented by the military industrial complex after WWII, that Eisenhower warned us about,..... and we didn't listen.

We can't win a war with China. We never have. No modern western nation has ever won a war with China. And they make stuff, where as we don't any more.

We have to stop this, and just accept that China is The ascending world nation. And work with it as a lesser power in international affairs. Other wise there is a war that we can't win. We don't make any thing, nor do we even have the infrastructure to make any thing any more. We out sourced it in our way of making just, a little more good for profiteering. They know this and they are not stupid.

We won WWII because we could build more stuff then the Germans could destroy. China understands this. We don't.

China makes every thing now, and secured all the little nations to supply them with raw materials. These are Nations we abandoned as less profitable. "National Interest." Hold this thought in your mind for a bit. When a politician says this, think, what they are saying. Explore what they are saying, cause no young person should be sent off to war over an ill defined National Interest.

There is only one interest....making money.

And there are plenty of people who will sell out our country to do so.

I know shattered men who did their duty for their country. What a waste....they were not fighting for our country.

Our enemies understand our greed. They are using that to achieve their interests....power.

I will be dead and will miss most of the “fun”.

I wll be dead also in fifteen years, comfortably so, as I tried to make things better. It hurts my soul that this is the way of the world. But it is, and has been through out history. No one really wants to change it. We are due for another war. There has to be a new one. And if there isn't one, we will make one. Over an island that the UN and we sort of say is a part of China just like the UN says anyway. Why are we even in the China Sea making issues. Its their space and back yard. Let them deal with it. Why do we want to protect Taiwan? And go to a war over it? That would be stupid.

The whole point to prepping is nothing is dependent on utilities, so the deep freezer is useless.

What I think will happen is that first neighbors will talk. We have this, you have that, sort of stuff. Then, if it gets bad over time, we defend our local community: With Firearms. No one comes up the hill that isn't allowed. We make the law cause here is no other law Then, if it goes way too long, a year or so, and we all run out of food, a member of the community will be assigned to find meat. Other members will be assigned to find wild vegetables and grass seeds. From our solar panels we can power a radio that tells us that in the cities things have collapsed in to a gang ruled chaos. But no one cares as Cities, and their suburbs, were out dated any way. They got what they deserved.

We reached out to other enclaves. Do we want a government? If they survived the same way we did then, I expect that they would say "no." So nothing happens till the Gangs from the city start taking over other communities by force. Some one says they are a KING, and we are claimed subjects.

You are right. However if it came to that, I have the capability to can everything in them. The toughest part would be learning to master the pressure cooker on the wood stove.

I don't know about that. I still eat things my grandma canned in 1986. I know it's old because she died in 1988.

In my day, my one Gramma on the farm was canning less than when the family was young (b4 my time), but the one thing she still did was peaches. Those Mason-jar peaches were hands down, THE best preserves I'm sure I'll ever eat..... canned ones usually have a texture somewhat like rubber.

Thanks Moss. As you can see I haven't read the thread but, I like to think about Dr. Pepper. It's a pity I can't handle carbonated drinks anymore.

A while back, I read an article that described what that might look like. it said that the government would supply food and water to people. Then it said be prepared to "get by 45 days while the government organized the operation. I thought about that. Then starting buying and rotating food. If I had to depend on the government for my existance, then me, my wife, my kids , my dog and my friends would all disappear.

Strange, but I noticed about 6 month ago Tractor Supply stocked and was selling a large freeze drying machine. Cost about $6000. Had one on the sales floor.

There's the Thing..... most of us can do better, but many people would struggle @ 4 TO 5 days, not a month +

I saw a vid on one of those types of machines recently - I can see where that frz/dry process would work well, but even @ the $3k USD for that machine, it's outside my budget..... which would be more aligned with a traditional dryer machine.....
