Burnouts Ruining Tires

When was the last time you let it loose?
Maybe a month ago on the on ramp to 23. I don't make a habit out of it, like I said, tires are expensive, especially the high speed rated radials on it. Kind of like it's there if I need it thing. They are fun cars, too bad Fords quit making them. Mine was built here in Michigan but the engine and transmission was built in Germany. Even the stock non turbo 2.3 makes 180 ponies. I get 39 mpg if I don't hot rod it. Interesting, all the tire roasters out front of your place 'power braked' them. I'm more about getting it down the quarter mile without shredding the tires. All that does is increase your ET. The Focus is front wheel drive but it don't torque steer like most of them do. Fords ingeniously built in a torque transfer mechanism in the front differential that negates torque steer.

They'd be busy roasting their tires while I sucked the paint off their hoods...lol. My Focus RS supposedly runs in the low 12's to high 11's. Never tried it, don't plan on it. The Focus I have is all about handling and top end. it has a 150 mph speedo and I'm sure I can peg it. Don't want to do that either. They aren't factory limited to a sane top speed. 120 on the local on ramp is good enough for me, quite an adrenaline rush. Don't forget I own 4 motorcycles as well.

The only proper tractor burnout is when it’s hooked to a pulling sled at the county fair (or such). That’s when you can show off what you got.

As to why do people do burnouts, I was at the Adirondack National Car Show in Lake George NY watching the non entries cruise the strip. It was truly amazing at what people would do to get attention. (All in good fun) Lights, lifts, flame throwers, pretend cop cars, fire trucks, sound tracks, political flags,..heck the flip side is people like me come out to watch them.

At Drag Strip burn outs are done to get the rear tires hot and sticky to provide better traction when the Xmas tree lights up allowing for more horsepower to be applied and a quicker time in the quarter.

When in Italy we purchased a 1967 VW
bug cost $1250 and $125 shipping to U.S.
Neighbor girl had a boy friend that had a
53 ford 6 cylinder 3 speed backed out of
the drive way popped the clutch and only
got a squeak then he floored it and then
popped the clutch and the drive shaft beat
the crap out of the floor boards and he only
got another squeak! I never cared to spin
the tires cost too much money and rough
on the drive train. Altho I did have a heavy
foot. From a dead stop at service school
command at Great Lakes to my dad's place
in NFDL WI it was 126 miles and it would
take me 1 hour & 15 minutes to make the
trip, I usually rode comfortable with both
feet flat on the floor. 1966 Dodge Cornet
440 auto 4 door small v8 and I averaged
19 miles per gallon

Back around 1984 I was doing some work on my 77 RD400. Put new carbs on it and a set of wheelie bars. Took it out into the street in front of my dad's house, got it warmed up, then held the front brake and did a massive burnout through 1st and 2nd gears, then let go of the brake and shot down the street quicker than I ever went in my life.

When I stopped and turned around, there was a beautiful picture.

The street was lined with really tall oaks. The sun was shining down through the leaves, and rays of light were spearing through a towering cloud of smoke from upper left away from me to lower right. I still see it today.

Then two little kids ran over and one shouted "HE MELTED THE STREET!"

Uh oh.

There was an inch deep trench 6' long by 3.5" wide with a pile of asphalt at the rear.

Got the heck out of there before the neighbors called the cops, as they were prone to do.

Went back a bit later and swept up the mess, but that trench remained for years afterwards.

Hooligan vandals, those bikers are.

Each to their own.

I'd rather do a five second burnout than spend an afternoon on a golf course. :)
I've never played a round of golf in my life. But there is some satisfaction going to a driving range and hitting a bucket of balls. It's pretty amazing how hard it is to hit consistent shots, so it makes for a good challenge.

Also, one of our kids took up golf in high school. She never touched a golf club in her life. Ended up making all-state team in senior year. It was quite enjoyable walking along watching her play. She had no power, but was extremely accurate, so her coach would put her in on the shorter courses.

There is nothing worse that that little round white
thing to spoil a good golf game.
When I was in NAS Corput Christi, TX they had a
club to see who could lay the most rubber. One guy
had a Chrysler put down 160 ft both wheels spinning
another guy says I'll beat that put two chevy engines
in his vehicle and got a whopping 90 ft
In 1958 3 window coupe Chrysler engine 3 speed locked
in 3rd gear from a dead stop hit 166;.44 qtr mile from one
the those small car mags. It's not on the net
