I've always wondered why being dead tends to give artists more talent than they actually had...popularity does not necessarily equate to talent...

I don’t know, I guess it’s because they didn’t live long enough to release the third or fourth album that everybody hated.

I've always felt that way about Janis Joplin for sure. Yet apparently she made a big impression on Stevie Nicks.
It was her voice...it could be mesmerizing...
I saw her in Tampa only to see her get hauled off and arrested by the Tampa cops because she cussed them out for the way they were handling some rowdy fans...
What I remember more about the show was BB King who opened for her...

Back in the 90's we were on our way to a helicopter ride in the Smokeys with our youngest child and Stevie Ray Vaughn was on the radio. I commented to my wife that I wished I would have seen him live. My kid asked me why I didn't. I said he passed away a few years ago. Then she asked how....

I lied and told her it was an industrial accident.

Years later she found out he died in a helicopter accident and still brings up the fact that I lied to her at such a young age. 🙃
You might ask your daughter if she'd have enjoyed the helicopter ride more knowing the truth.

Seeing how she's almost 30 now, we've had that discussion many times. She said she wouldn't have gotten on the helicopter had she been told someone died in a helicopter crash just 20 minutes earlier. She was 4 at the time.

Janis was mesmerizing because she showed her soul in her performance. And she had as much soul to show as Aretha Franklin. I saw BB King in a coffee house in 1969 purely by accident. He was wonderful. Played his trumpet into a cereal bowl. Harmonica. And introduced us to Lucil

While I have a lot of music from the artists in the picture, not a fan of the picture.

Some of y'all are showing your age. wink wink

I may have told this before....

SRV. I went to the huge Party at the Astrodome. Thought we had left plenty early giving ourselves about 2 hours to park and get into the dome. But the crowd outside was so big, only could ride a shuttle to the dome. We had to go park about 10 miles away and shuttle in. We got there late and only saw the last few songs that SRV and double trouble played. They opened for The Who. That was the only time I saw SRV live, and from a distance.

Double trouble went on and formed a band called Storyville, which Austinites thought would be a big success with "Good day for the Blues". But for some reason they didn't take off like everyone thought they would. Some pretty good talent in that band. Saw them multiple times live. Great sound. The singer was albino, and won the whole band over in just minutes, as they were on a nationwide search for a singer. This song bubbles up to the top of my playlist every now and then.

And not bashful about it!

Here is Old School that looks like it will be timeless forever. I think Bach would appreciate this if he heard it.

I've seen them perform that song 4 times. The best theatrically-wise was in Indianapolis in 1989 at the Steel Wheels Tour. The stage goes dark red and black. The band starts playing a long intro. You hear Jagger start to sing, but you don't see him anywhere. Then the crowd starts pointing up and he's at the top of the 6 story tower on the right of the stage and it continues from there. Pure theatre! (y)

Saw them again last October. Just as good. Still going strong.

It’s got me a bit nervous though. There’s Mick, with all of the money he’s made; and he still has to work at 78 yo or something like that. It pretty much dashes my hopes of ever retiring. ;)
