What type of gun is this?

We can't play the this game any more. An AR is not a hunting long gun. Its a military weapon. At some point we have to figure this out. Why do people have these weapons. And Uhmmm.... its not because you have a re-accruing stampede of rodents. You want it because it is the last way to make sure there isn't a dictator in this country. Just admit that, and you own a military rifle because, you want to, and it is your right, to straight out own it. I hate this whole ARs are hunting rifles.. They are not, and were never designed to be hunting rifles. They are designed to kill people. We embrace that, or we do not. In my area, everyone has guns. The civil war would be over in 4 hours. And no one is going to ask the guy next to them if they were a democrat or a republican.

I'm not really a fan of AR styling. I'm more of a traditionalist. However, for someone looking for one weapon, the AR platform gives you a round that has stopping power and range while allowing a large capacity magazine. You may not use it 15-30 rounds hunting deer, but you certainly might hunting hogs or practicing on the range. Oddly enough, rounds that are good for big game are also good for people.
If I had my choice, I would have a beautiful, walnut stock rifle in .308 or thereabouts, with a 30 round magazine, a suppressor and easy mounts for scopes and lights. It would look less scary than an AR, but for everyday use, it makes sense.

You mean, like, a M14 LOL... Its not a hunting gun. Its a pass-able, hunting gun. Its got wood stocks and no pistol grip, and its old, .. there for it, isn't an assault weapon. The past NRA did us no good in this stupidity that some guns that look nasty are, and some guns that don't look nasty are not. They are the same damn guns with different furniture. Everyone knows that, aside from ignorant people and politicians. These are not hunting guns. Let us not pretend that they are.

Cause the one in the lower right isnt a complete gun. They staged it to look like it was a terrifying "assult rifle", but aside from it not even having the upper and lower pinned together, it doesnt even have a BCG.
Dude was obviously a criminal, with drugs, guns, and stolen property and deserved to be arrested. But trying to make it look like something its not is deceiving.

SO a 350 legend, 450 bushmaster, 243WIn or 308WIn are not hunting rounds? You can get an AR style rifle in almost any caliber these days from 17 up to 308. The are not the M16 you may remember. You set it up for what ever you like and don't need 30 round mags. The rules and tech have changed a lot with the platform. I know people shooting 1600 yards with 6.5 Creedmore from an AR platform. 5.56 is small for big game hunting but you step to something - it works just fine. I prefer old lever action but my 30-30 is under powered compared to many modern rifles.
If I run a 22LR upper on a my AR is still a weapon of war? What defines that?
I used to hunt with Chinese SKS worked just fine and if I wanted I can run a 30 rd magazine.

That's something I won't do. We travel to so many different states on short notice just for fun that I don't need the hassles of being pulled over and an officer seeing some rounds rolling around on the floor or the console, and lord knows what line of questioning and suspicion that'll bring. Not sure where you are, but just about everyone I know that hunts coyotes uses an AR platform.
Same with groundhogs.
My next will be a 350 legend for deer.
No game. People can buy guns for whatever reason they want. But to say a AR is not a hunting rifle is a stupid statement. Just because wasnt created as a hunting rifle doesnt mean it didnt evolve.
Tractors were created for farmers to replace horses. Does that mean hobbiest shouldnt own a tractor, because they werent created to do chores around the house and take down the trash and mow the yard? Or have they evolved into something more useful that a higher percentage of the population can use?
I have several AR's. And its not because I am wanting to make sure there isnt a dictator in charge. Its because I enjoy shooting them both recreationally and for hunting. So quit the BS that you think you know why everyone owns one
