Fram went to Mexico for a time, may still be there? That was when I REALLY started hearing about problems with them and I already was hearing about them enough to stop using them.

That is where I get my favorite .89 filter for my favorite car- tractor. Guaranteed for as long as your machine will run. Will never clog and prevent flow - uses new technology - oil soluble filter paper - no clogs. Probably the reason I started using Royal Purple filters and Racor filters.

One) in the video the filter is labeled as a FUEL Filter.

Two) the canisters with the toilet paper rolls were a bypass filter which just filtered a slip stream of the oil,
And they are still available.

All of this gives me a chuckle as it reminds me of how my dad swore by an oil filter that used replaceable “ cartridges” , which were toilet paper rolls! Haven’t seen them offered lately, wonder why.
My dodge grand caravan uses a replaceable cartridge. I actually like how it works instead of throwing away the whole "housing" everytime you just replace the paper cartridge.

Franz is still around, using in-house filter element because toilet paper changed to soft stuff that turns to mush. Way back, you could find stouter toilet paper, basically, the cheap stuff.
I ran one of these bypass filters in the old days and it did a fine job of catching stuff, judging by the layer of particles on the top when changing elements. Beyond that, there was four inches of filter to catch more!

A comment on filters in general: Years ago I read an article about the rate of "dirtiness" for crankcase oil, with measurment taken with engine that had no filter. The conclusion was that it would reach harmful levels about three thousand miles, about the recommended change interval at the time.
I was not ready to dismiss oil filters based on that, but did conclude that any non-junk filter would be fine, no need to worry about the "bestest" brand.

Gord Baker above... "These are NOT Fuel Filters unless Mazda has a Diesel"... Yes, Mazda has not "A" diesel, but many diesels up and down their product line from sub-compact cars through the larger SUVs. Everywhere else in the world except US/Canada lots of small (by our standard) vehicles are diesel. On a recent trip to Vietnam, hired a guy to haul two of us and our small motorcycles a couple hundred miles, the guy had a Chevy Colorado with 3k miles on it, 2.0 litre 4 cyl "duramax" diesel and 6spd manual transmission. He claimed it gets 5.3 litres per 100km ~ 40 mpg. Does not use DEF.
