John Deere 4400
I might have missed a thread addressing this question , I am curious why the John Deere X758 radiator is located on the end of the engine next to the dash and not located on the front end of the engine.
Is it because of the size of the cooling unit and next to the dash it has a better fit than it would on the front end of the engine affecting overall length and apperance or did the engineers/designers think that next to the dash it would be more efficient .
Has any of the other manufactures IE: Kubota , New Holland ,Case etc used a similar design ?
Thank you

Been that way for years.. my first experience I think was in 1998 on my JD 425.

Unlike a car where air flow through the radiator from highway travel probably has an influence on design, placement of fan to move air through the radiator on a yard tractor not so important.

Probably a bit of all your "because" factors enter into the design equation. Even weight distribution likely enters in.

Is it a game changer, or just a curiosity ?

I am just curious , the mid size John Deere diesel compact tractors have the radiators in the front compared to the John Deere diesel Garden tractors with them next to the dash and I was curious why the garden tractors were different.
I am just wondering what the avantages/disadvantages I have never given it much thought as to why and never had it explained to me from anyone that would have more knowledge than me.

The screening around the dash sure helps to limit the grass sucked into the radiator. The design probably helps to keep the package more compact too.

I always figured the mid-mount radiator and suction screen between the knees was to insure that your pants got dirty while mowing.

Does it blow at the operator? The Kubota BX has that design but the fan pushes the air forward away from the operator. With intake at the operator station it does not collect nearly has much chaff as a traditional fan and radiator setup. I can cut for weeks without cleaning screen and radiator.

My deere 425 blew forward.

Does not blow at the operator. And it does not get your pants dusty or dirty.

On a dry windy day my pants got dusty. I could occasionally see the dandelion fuzz and dust particles drift past my legs and towards the intake screen but I seldom had to wipe it clean. It seams like it circled around a bit, landed on the hump and vibrated down to the foot boards.

Do the screens on the rear mounted radiators and filters ever cause anyone problems in freezing weather freezing over during snow falls and or frosty air conditions ice build ups freezing moisture etc. Is there anyway low air flow restriction in cold temperatures cause an over heating situation due to low airflow ?
