Are you saying that we shouldn’t bother to call?
Lol. How did you get that from what I wrote?

My insurance doesn't cover me if I don't have a clear locate ticket and you're automatically at fault and liable. So call in your locates and take tons of pictures with measurements from painted lines if you hit something unmarked or more than 2ft from the mark.

My point is that if you don’t call them, you are responsible for what goes wrong.
I am fairly sure that 99% of America knows that fact if they don’t they are just plain stupid

I wasn’t sure what you were saying, based on you last remark.

So why are you arguing against it?

Just exactly where do you get I was arguing against it?

You stated a fac, I stated more facts…..

Pretty simple

If you are looking for an argument go somewhere else

Friend lived on a short dead end street and was gifted a small tractor so he made a blade for it and cleared his snow in the winter. Being retired, he cleared his neighbours driveways and the 200 feet of street. The city got on his case because of the liability and suggested he stop clearing the street. I don’t clear the road as much any more because of that though we do get a city plow on our road now because a new neighbour knows the Mayor ( we just got new asphalt last week).
It is a race to see who can clear the old folks up the road on snow days. There are 3 or 4 of us with snow clearing toys and we all like to play.

Are people lazy, just don’t notice things, don’t care, afraid if they do something wrong they will be sued? What’s the deal?
All of the above but also some are probably being reminded of the old saying: "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished".

The population is higher now and there’s a lot more disposable trash to throw out than there used to be so simple logistics would suggest the problem would be worse.
Also the cost of taking a large item like a sofa or mattersses to the dump is outrageous. So many wind up along roadsides. I saw an old console TV, cabinet and tube thrown out on a empty lot on a city street right in town a couple weeks ago.

Common misconception with digsafe is they mark everything. Really they only mark the public owned lines.
Yep and too often they say they don't go to rural areas. I still call and document that I called.

We’re supposed to call dig safe before digging
Exactly… but they don’t mark private lines like the capped gas line to where a hot tub use to be…

Plus… the area marked is to be hand dug… so no need of a TLB

If DigSafe makes a mistake they pay. If the contractor messes up or if the homeowner moves the flags they are at fault.
Hit a fiber optics line, that free phone call will seem pretty cheap. Hit a propane line, the ensuing explosion and loss of life like what happened downstate a few years ago will make your life go downhill fast.

Spend the dime. It’s cheap insurance.
What happens if the guy down the street with a hoe is asked to take out a stump and it would take no time at all and no money or barter occurs…?

The backhoe isn’t a contractor or paid to perform and relies on the homeowner’s assurances and there is a line mixed in with the roots? The homeowner says you did it.
