In my profession, there are lots of published papers, and a small percentage of outliers (science differs from the preponderance). Typically the outliers turn out to be junk science, but occasionally the outlier publications advance the science and knowledge base. That’s why I would be interested in hearing the thoughts of a geologist on these new oil creation publications.

Thats interesting opinion about outliers and what the majority say. Especially in our courts Take for instance experts in bite marks, shaking baby syndrome, casing matching and blood splattering experts. All of these experts have at some point fabricated or outright was able to fool the public. There is a lot of junk science out there. 20 years ago there was outliers going against the grain and warning people. Turns out they were right and there have been lots of people freed from prison based off these junk sciences. ITs bc of the outliers that never stopped. Outliers are not getting grants or the big funding. Outliers dont need the fame or credit. If it were not for outliers where would we be.

Couldn’t agree more. Too much consensus among “scientists” on too many things lately that have been proven dead wrong.
Covid (masks/the jab), the hockey stick are a couple recent big ones.

Agree that outliers can occasionally have discovered something new. That’s how science advances. However, the science community is going to go with the preponderance of peer reviewed studies until others examine the outlier studies and also find similar conclusions. Science is about testing hypothesis and many others duplicating the studies until the results are replicated by others independently.

The science community is going to go where the money and/or power are. They are just people. No special defenses against greed, corruption, political influence, etc.

Again, agree.

Many “scientists” are rewarded money/funding to provide or manufacture “proof” to a groups agenda, because the group can make a profit. This has been demonstrated over & over.

”Scientists” touted the jab over & over. Now we are finding out it’s useless for young & healthy people.

I’m very leery and suspicious of group think consensus science now and pay special attention to “outlier” science that questions the concensus

A lot of electrical engineering science was needed to create the hardware. Science is all around us. It is what makes us an advanced society. Medical treatments, agricultural science, fluid and chemical sciences, earth and life sciences. We would be living like the 1850s without science professionals.
