Stupid Things I Have Done

Put on my jacket, work boots, gloves and walk out to the tractor. Then I realize I forgot the keys.
Never done that. But the number of times I’ve loaded the tractor with my gear and driven everything down to my wood lot, just to realize I forgot the key for the wood splitter, is countless.

I locked the key inside my cab tractor this week. Twice.

I have 5 keys to my tractor kicking around... or maybe it's 7. There always is at least one key in each of my 2 trucks, a couple in the house... on most occasions there also is a key in the ignition.
It's easier to buy keys for an L series Kubota than it is to buy propane.

I'm wondering if I just did something stupid. I had our driveway repaved summer before last (17 months ago) & the contractor seal coated it. He stops by "I had some sealer left over from another job and I'd be glad to do your drive with what's left. No labor, 98 cents a foot". Driveway is 520 ft x 10 ft plus a right big area in front of garage half way around.
He did blow everything off well and he sprayed it well, heated tank.
When through he said "I'll give you a good deal...$6,000".
It does look good and I had places Miss Utility had marked and tire scuffs (FedEx & UPS).
I paid him...hope I didn't get ripped off.

Sounds like a lot of $$$ to me, but I don’t know the going rate!
Happy New Year, Fuddy🍾☮️✌🏻

Things vary by region, but around here, that's what you'd pay for hand-brushed. If spray on without a lot of crack repair,, then that price is way high.

I thought it was high also. The way he presented it to me was "I have leftover sealcoat", then 98c/ I wasn't thinking square but running foot. About halfway through I said I need some kind of price...he said "we're not talking $10,000...if from there up is 90 feet then $900".
He didn't have any crack repair. He started yesterday about 1pm and it started to rain a little at 5pm so he said he would finish up today. He showed up about the same time today, sun was out so driveway was dry. He finished a few hours later.
Total time he was here, blowing off drive & then spraying was about 8 hours.

In my state he wouldn't be able to start for 24 hours, to give you a chance to think about it. Also, without a written contract it's his word against yours.
Different laws for different states and at this point the job is done, there's no use second guessing yourself.

Most importantly though; are you happy with what he did?

Well, yes, I'm happy. I didn't sign anything before he started but he did accurately spray so that he didn't get spray on house or garage white posts. It looks good and I believe he used quality sealer. When through he used a measuring wheel which of course if he did that first saying $6,000 I would have said I need to think about it first.
It's like he knew what to say (me suckered in).

We've all done worse, Fuddy. No sweat, don't look back. I just got back from the tourist trap that is my former home town, over-paying for everything from food and drinks to socks and sweaters. Sometimes the convenience of here and now beats out lowest price.
