Student Loan Debt?

Last year I had 3 that wanted to be welders (1 girl). I encouraged them. Ultimately, choose a profession you can tolerate and hopefully enjoy that can pay for your chosen lifestyle.

After my father/employer passed away when I was 25 I went to work for a construction company and learned to weld and did ironwork welding for about 10 years, between working for the ironwork company, and hiring on as maintenance in a facility I ultimately retired from and to be honest with you it (welding) was one of the most fulfilling jobs I’ve ever had

The best thing that ever happened to me was all of my friends went away to college and I stayed home. We were all pretty much a bad influence on each other.

I don't regret one bit of it.

My granddaughter wants to go to the Fort Wayne Purdue campus and live at home so that’s how she’s even beginning to be able to pay as she goes on her college choice

Paying for over 15 years of 'higher education" ( three children) at full tote. (no regrets, great kids)

And then hearing that the socialists bought the kids just a few years younger.

Might piss some people off. IDK.

One of our Vermont representatives proposed a scheme where there would be a revolving higher education fund.

That is, resident the tuition and book fees would be subsidized through a program funded by previous graduates.
The payments into the fun being proportional to earnings over a fixed time.

The fine details would be over which time period the repayment would be extracted. 10 years after graduation ? or should it be 20?

And then those who choose the trades? They start making good money right off, but it only goes so high.

The wealthy tend to look out for themselves. Look to our tax structure for affirmation.

My Vote? keep government OUT of education, just as it applies to religion!

No college for me. I made a good living in the trades !
Having said that. I use to work for many apartment owners that rented to college students . Many of these students I talked with while making HVAC / plumbing repairs told me their student loans make their car payment, pay their rent, food, their utilities, their clothes, tires for their car, etc,etc,,
I think this is where the real issue is. And those in Washington willing to forgive these so called ''college loans'', have no clue this is even going on . I know I never did. I always thought that your college loan way used to pay for college only. It was a real eye opener for me to find out otherwise

Housing and meals are legitimate school loan expenses. On campus: dorms and dining hall, off campus a rental and groceries. Vehicles, clothes and entertainment are abuses of the purpose for these loans.

No, they are not in my mind. They would still need to eat and be housed if they were not going to college. What next, spring break? Is that a legitimate school loan expense?

Along with binge drinking and drug partying!

Personally, what my granddaughter is going to do as far as staying home and going to a local campus of a good state, College is in my mind, the preferential way to do it.

I applaud my granddaughter, for having her head set firmly on her shoulders in the right direction, going forward!
