I think once you are into the EPA engine management stuff you might as well go bigger than 35hp for the intended uses. You can now get 48-50 pto hp in a 6' wide tractor which can run bigger implements and still not require building wide trails in the woods to get around. I like my tractor's size and if I was running a tiller or baler I would want more hp.

Me too, recommending a bigger tractor. 35 hp is kinda in between the small and big tractors for moderate size property. My 6ft 50 hp tractor runs a 7ft offset flail mower which makes the job easier and quicker.
However first time operators may be more comfortable with the price and feel of a smaller tractor.

keep in mind a sub compact the size you are considering is not much bigger than a lawn/garden tractor. agree w/others, go larger w/that kind of acreage. you wont regret

The problem for any first time buyer is having enough personal experience to be comfortable making an initial purchase decision especially when tractor prices today are so high that it would be expensive to buy something that turned out to be unsatisfactory to you.

I think I've said this before, but there's a huge difference in stability and power between my 25hp L2501 and my 52hp MX5200, but I don't know how you'd personally experience the difference other than operating one and then the other for comparison.

I had a 35hp Mahindra 3525 which is a pretty heavy tractor, but the MX is way more stable and has more useable traction and power, IMO. The only thing I don't like is the DPF system, but you're stuck with DPF once you go above 25hp in the USA.

If you are able, driving each tractor on the lot would be worth your time. Each tractor will feel different and some issue you never thought of may show up. For me, I owned a 30hp Kubota for 15 years when I upgraded. I don't like the single treadle peddle on the Kubota. I very much like the 2 pedals that the Kioti has. That was the one issue that pushed me into the Kioti.

I’ve seen some pretty poor reviews on the Bobcat version of the Kioti, and some selling really cheap used…. If it’s a Kioti, just buy the Kioti.
Are they different than their comparable Kioti model? I have no clue but have seen them around and at the Bobcat dealership.

in general i find test driving a tractor at a dealership lot is a poor way to simulate field use. In addition, i agree w/above posters that the MX series would be ideal for an estate tractor. & don't fall into the buying frenzy till you're certain which machine best suits your needs...

In the several tractors I have owned, I had pre-conceived notions of what the biggest thing I would ever do with it. First tractor I ever owned: JD 790. Made by Yanmar in Japan. Absolutely great tractor. I moved so much brush, trees, rocks and things. Ran a 5 foot bush hog on it. Ran a 7 foot finish mower on it. Had the 70 FEL on it. Box blades, landscape rakes, tillers. What I finally discovered, after a few months, was as great of a tractor it was, it wasn't big enough to do all the chores I needed done on my farm. Especially in a timely manner. I kept it for almost 10 years. Sold it and the implements I bought for it for almost as much as I paid new for it 10 years earlier. I upgraded to a JD 5055D. Great, more weight, more horse power, bigger loader, can power much larger implements. Great tractor. NO Tier Final 4 emissions. Now that my farm is pretty much whipped into shape, I am finding I am not using it half as much as I used to. 14 years later, I am starting to eye a full cab track loader. It has more horse power, can get into tighter areas than my 5055D could ever imagine getting into. It will float on mud. It can dig. It has all programmable, joy stick controls. It has heat and air. It has an unlimited amount of implements you can attach to and run on hydraulics. Forestry heads, brush cutters, forks, grapples, trenchers.....the list goes on and on. Now, my eyes have gotten bigger than my wallet.

I guess what I am trying to say is: Whatever you end up buying, you will find it limitations within a few short months and then you will be looking at something a little bigger. And, that's OK. That is why there is a really good used market on CUT.

I did over buy once... and I STUBBORNLY KEPT THAT TRACTOR FOR 14 YRS lol.
So glad I downsized to the Kubota MX5200. Yes the DPF cycle is a pain but if working it goes unnoticed.
And the treadle pedal was a concern but 1 yr later I figured out how to live with it. It has pros and cons.
But if you are novice then you have no operator habits to break and soon you will get used to whatever controls you have.

The tractors are the same, the attachments have a different supplier though. Or that's my understanding.

I think it's more just to get a feel for the ergonomics.
