Route 66 was cool but I wasn't old enough to appreciate it. I liked the drifter aspect of the show, however.

One to watch back then was Perry Mason in black and white. The earlier in the show's run the better. Nothing beats black and white and if you look close or watch with the sound off there are all sorts of actor gestures or clues offered in the background. Perry Mason is great today and I watch it when I can.

Small point is the guy that played Lt Tragg got sick early in the series and Raymond Burr kept his name in the show credits to assure he could get heath care from the studio plan. That was nice.

You had to call the operator when wanting to make a long distance call !

I can remember when all calls went through the operator. No dial phones in our area back then.

At 25, 65 is an eternity away.

That's when I first started saving for retirement - and at the time, I honestly believed I had a better chance of seeing a Unicorn than ever actually reaching retirement.

Alas, you know you're old when 65 is now in the past...

...and I never did see that Unicorn!

Another great early detective show was Peter Gunn. It was a 1950's early James Bond style show and Gunn always seem to come out on top. Herschel Bernardi played a fledgling cop ad he showed up in other shows over the years.
Gunn was kind of a "most interesting man in the world" kind of guy for the 50's.
