2022 Bronco sport review

The Bronco 2 is basically a Ford Escape with different sheet metal and keep in mind that the Eco-Boost engine is very touchy when it comes to oil change frequency. They really need to be changed every 5K miles as well as oil filter and that comes right from my BIL who was one of the design engineers on it. He told me and I quote... "extending the oil change intervals past 5K miles will eventually result in cam shaft failure". What he told me, you can take that to the bank or not, depending on your attitude. He was the person who told me to stay away from the Ford Focus twin clutch hybrid transmission and I did, opting for an off lease Ford Focus RS hatchback with the 6 speed single dry clutch transmission (off lease of course).

I'm not in the market for one but if I was, I would have purchased a low mileage off lease Escape instead, or even a Toyota FJ.

I don't consider 26 mpg to be all that good for a vehicle that size but then it entirely depends on driving habits and the weight of your right foot on the loud pedal. One thing I noticed today and that is, people don't use their cruise control to their advantage a lot of times. I use mine 95% of the time, even in off highway (as in surface street) driving. The cruise on my RS as well as my wife's Suburban will engage and hold the set speed down to 26 mph and I'll do that even in town when putting around.

Time will tell as with all mechanical purchases.

While this is true, Arly doesn't strike me as the type to neglect regular maintenance. It'll see those oil changes, no doubt.

Very true. Ford recommendation is oil changes every 10,000 miles. NOPE! As an owner of a 2016 F150 I follow the Ford forums closely and there are many examples of people having cam problems if they do 10,000 oil changes. No more than 5,000 miles!

I love cruise control but I've found that here in the mountain west using cruise control costs me 1 - 2 miles per gallon.

Just passing on what my BIL told me and he knows being one of the design engineers on that platform. Myself, I have no desire to own one, only way I would would be the full sized edition and they are way out of my realm of cost versus value anyway. I figure my wife's Suburban LTZ (off lease as well) will suffice for us for a long time. Don't get good fuel mileage but then it's a tank anyway and I don't fuel it, she does. Here lately with fuel prices, it's sets her back almost a C note to fill it up.... and it's getting worse, not better. On the other hand, my Focus RS takes about 11 gallons from dead empty and gets about 40 mpg and being the cheapskate I am, that works for me. Least Fords figured out than a pilot injector in the intake tract eliminates the inherent GDI issues, that is, a dry intake tract will build carbon deposits around the intake valve causing internal engine issues if not cleaned regularly. I use Sea Foam cleaner at every oil change, injected directly into the intake tract post MAF sensor. It works just fine actually.
