Other news makes it sound like Volkswagen is on the ropes as well. It sounds like all the major names in Germany autos are more or less pulling out of China because of their steep losses, which was their main profit center for decades.
Just hopped off the phone with one of my oldest friends, who is German and works for Audi/VW in Bavaria (Germany), and their subsidiary Ducati in Verona (Italy). He's in accounting, fraud prevention and auditing.

He didn't mention anything about VW being on the ropes, but he did mention they bought Navistar International, which was formed out of International Harvester. The reason it came up is that Navistar owned Scout Motors, and so now the new Scout SUV and truck are under the VW group, adding to their net EV offerings.

I can believe that. Looking at closing, three plants in Germany will be a first in their long history. If the USA lost our relatively cheap energy sources like Germany did, we'd be in a world of hurt already ourselves beyond what we are.

Here is a list of 10 cars price from 3K to 15K that probably could make good cars for someone with a good sense of the condition of older used cars.

In the middle of the pandemic, the daughter 's. 2002 Dodge Dakota got rear-ended at a traffic light and we wound up buying a 2004 Honda CRV that look pretty nice and 50,000 mi later. Clearly it has a solid motor and transmission. It developed a leak in the power steering system and cratered the pump so we replaced that and also the rear wheel bearings were all down and replaced those.

The struts Hammer hard on potholes so we're redoing that. This is my first experience with a Honda. I've been very impressed. Doors work and are tight and I think at 190,000 now it should be good for another
100,000 miles hopefully.

My first new vehicle was a 1973 Datsun 1200 and my second new vehicle is our 2023 model y dual motor long range . I have lived a life driving what others didn't want to drive. :)

Wait! Now you tell me others don't want to drive Model Y Long Ranges? That I'm not the envy of all who see me? 😲

I bought a used 1973 Datsun 1200 as a winter car when I had my Corvette. Damn good little car and I did not spend much on it. Replaced the clutch and brakes and never had any other mechanical issues.

No Datsun 1200 but did have an MGB GT worse $$ trade ever, because I handed over a perfectly straight Midnight Blue 65 4 speed GTO in trade. Best quote about that screw up by an adult was keep making trades like that and you will be driving a bicycle soon. I was driving long distance a lot at the time and the MG was considerably better on gas but I still miss the Goat. The MG did handle well.

Found a pic from 40 years ago

The Model Y is quicker and faster than the Goat outhandles and uses less "fuel" than the MG hauls more than either and is also a Great winter car.

Boo hoo hoo!

Am reminded of the definition of an actuary: what results do you want? 97% of “climate scientists” fully agree with whatever their grant writer asks for.

The fact is that under the same regulations as applies to ICE I paid similar price for an EV which is proving to be a better vehicle than any other option.

The only reason some materials are produced via substandard dirty means is that globalists have gifted a protected market to 3rd world countries which have been taken over by China. We could (and have) produced all these materials in the USA as clean as anything we do. Under new management we will once again.
