Is the Cyber Truck a Flop?

You are saying that in Holland, the govt forbids you from selling your EV for its first 5 years? Is that even enforceable? Nuts.

What is the reason for that?
I strongly suspect it's more a matter of having to refund any tax incentive that was provided on the initial purchase. They don't have a mechanism for actually preventing the sale, as far as I know... but it's going to cost you!

I think what he was saying was that there is very little market for used EVs in Holland now.

I remember the Norwegian situation. The subsidies made EVs so cheap, it was a no-brainer to buy them. However, most people that them kept their ICE cars. If I recall, over half of the new cars sold were EVs but not over half of registrations, because the old cars didn't get traded in. It just meant more cars in total.

I believe selling early forfeits the incentives.

In Norway you arent allowed to sell for 5 years if you take the subsidy, to prevent people making a profit on a car they sell right away.

In Holland, you may, but there are no takers. At least not for the money you'd expect to get for a 5 year old vehicle. Used EV prices arent what you'd think they be.

Trust me, your 'free charging at work' is a baked into your employment asset.

Nothing is free despite what you assume.

Agreed. It is compensation. I do have to pay taxes on the metered value of the kilowatts I use each year.

As for driving distance, I am 90 miles each way, when I go to the main office. As for cold weather, it definitely has an effect. Before I got my charger installed I was using superchargers and charging at work so there were a few times that I charged at work and drove home and back the next day and just charged at work. This was only for about a month of ownership before Input in my charger. But one morning, I pulled in to work and had less than 20% battery left. I think I was down to 14% that day. And my car popped a message up on the display telling me that I needed to plan for cold weather and reduced range because my current charging/driving pattern might leave me stranded.

OK, I get it.

EV resale value has been horrible for years here, but we have more than plenty of them in N. California. You don't have to look hard to find a 5yo Tesla for under $20K, and a 5yo Leaf for under $10K.

My neighbor was smart to lease his Kia Niro. It seems like a nice car, and it is quick. Hard to get over that "killed-in-action" name, but maybe that just dates me...

One thing I noticed with my cousin's Cyber Truck and that is, the battery will pre condition (I assume it warms the coolant circulating around the battery on demand of the driver. There is a touch button on the screen that initiates that so if he's planning on charging on the road, he can initiate the pre conditioning prior to charging. He did just that when we were coming back from the hunting property and it required a charge. Nice thing was there was a Supercharging facility right across the road from the hotel we stayed at.

One of my doctors has an S and we were discussing his charge state in cold weather and he told me the charge state is less in frigid temps. He, like my cousin, charges at home as well. Of course my cousin now owns 3 Tesla's. The first model Gullwing coupe or sedan or whatever it's called, a standard Tesla for business use and the Cyber Truck and the business one has a charging station at his place of business.

Of course he's worth 50 times what I am, probably more.

It's nice I get to drive them without owning them or having to pay for them.

Yes, I think that's the best way, too.

I have driven the Model X, the one with the gullwing back doors. It is even more bulky feeling than the Model S. Quick, but not as quick as the S or the Roadster. The Model S is a good-looking car, unlike any of the other Teslas.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Test drive the cyber truck for a few hours while my Y was getting a hitch installed.

Fun to drive but hard to justify $80,000. The range extender will be another $15,000.

Also my wife hates the look of it.
