Anyone ever take an Amtrak trip? My brother and SIL did a few years ago to Flagstaff. They had mixed feelings on it. I wouldn't mind going from Western IL to either Salt Lake or Sacramento then fly back.

We did St Lou Mo to Raton NM. 20 hour trip with 14 boy scouts for 2 weeks of back packing in the rockies, I'll never do it any other way. Only had 3 stops between Stl and Raton. Conductor would not allow any boy off with out a ticket showing that was their stop. No worries for me as the scout master. Made two trips with the troop in different years.
PS the baggage section has canvas shelf's that make a great bed if the car is not full and after 10 days of 5-10 miles with gaining and losing ~ 1000' of altitude each day, this 50 year old was tired.
