When creative politicians figure out how to road use tax charging stations, that will be interesting and I'm sure they will at some point because politicians for the most part are all devious.

Nothing is 'free' at any motel or hotel. The price of ancillary 'perks' including 'free' charging or continental breakfast or any 'extra' supposedly free services is baked into the price of the room. After all, they are businesses and if not profitable, don't stay in business.

One thing I've learned from staying at any national chain of lodging like Hampton Inn for instance is, you can actually negotiate a room price lower than their standard rate if you take the time to do it, something I always do.

Please find me a "free or subsidized" charging station.
The rest areas on the NYS Northway (I87) have been redone and part of that boondoggle waste of millions of dollars was free ev chargers.

In California the smog testing required to renew, includes recording the miles shown in the car's computer. All automatic - they plug into the diagnostic port.

This data is uploaded to DMV even before you pay and are handed the test results.
As already noted, large swaths of this country do not have any annual inspection of vehicles. It's honestly hard to understand why everyone doesn't have an annual safety inspection, but there it is.

Emissions testing is usually isolated to higher-density areas. In PA, the counties around Philadelphia have an emissions testing requirement, and I suspect Pittsburg may be the same, but the rest do not.

I pay more tax to drive the EV than my ICE vehicles.
Alabama has a fuel tax at $.30/gallon, which if your ICE averages 20 mpg, would amount to $.015/mile. So $150 - $225/year for an average 10k - 15k miles per year. Add that to your registration fee ($50?), and you're probably paying at least as much on ICE for tax + registration, as the EV.

Did your numbers include rebates and tax incentives?
I was using the costs of home charging and buying gasoline at the pump. There are no rebates or incentives on home charging or gasoline, of which I'm aware.

As to purchase incentives and rebates, those are dwindling, and I wouldn't be eligible for them on any car I'd be considering, as far as I understand it.

In no small part because the “inspections” were being performed by repair shops who delightfully found things to be repaired which were not broken.

$0.29. More realistically 25 MPG. $204 is 703 gallons or 17,575 miles at 25 MPG. Maybe 5% of EVs drive this much per year. I drove 8491 miles in 2024, $0.024/mile in fees. The ICE pays by the mile.

Hybrids pay a $102 EV fee.

These EV fees are over and above all the other taxes and fees charged to ICE vehicles.

At one time there was a 30% Federal tax credit for the cost of installing home charging facilities. Some misguided locales may still offer similar incentives.

You’ve calculated taxes on a gasoline vehicle is less than $204 a year, or simply the total is less?
It would be interesting if you would post your numbers and calculations
$204 EV fee is on top of all taxes and fees imposed on the ICE.

You know what a Level 2 is? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

"4 hours to charge" is only if one arrives with a 50% charge. Yup, I'm so stupid as to sit around for 4 hours just to get a free charge.

I'm going to buy an EV and rush to New York and only drive on the Thruway where I can charge for free!

So disappointed you didn't cite Whole Foods. They too have free L2 charging. Is such a Great EV Privilege to add 15 miles of range in 30 minutes while I pay $90 for $40 of groceries!

There are a number of hotels offering "free" L2 charging to overnight customers. Then again they offer "free" breakfast, "free" swimming pools, free free free under the same terms, "paying customer."

Your reading comprehension is deficient to "think" I didn't know of the existence of "free" EV charging. I'm sitting here laughing at how easy it was to pull your strings. To make you cite such ridiculous "free" charging facilities. I'm old enough to remember when one was offered "free" coffee on interstate rest stops in attempt to get tired drivers off the road for a few minutes for a stimulant. So let's extrapolate that into, "Free Coffee For All!"
Of course you would want to move the goal posts. What a jagoff

Cite the rebates and tax incentives you are referring to?

Then lets factor in the tax incentives Toyota/Mazda got to build a factory in Huntsville Alabama, or the incentives Toyota got to build an engine factory in Huntsville. Let's factor in the incentives Kia/Hyundai got to build factories in Alabama and Georgia. The incentives BMW got to build in South Carolina. Mercedes-Benz in Alabama. The list goes on and on and on. And not a single EV from any of the above.
How about piss off?

Apparently that example doesn't fit the box
