We are less than 20 minutes away from the Soo Locks opening. It’s a beautiful but cold morning here in Sault Ste. Marie. We have three freighters waiting to make their way into Lake Superior.

1000 foot Edwin H Gott on her first trip this season to Two Harbors on this snowy second day of Spring. I'd guess taken in Door County WI.

Boy the Ryerson has been in layup a loooong time. Wonder what her fate will be?

Captain Tim Alfson on the Edwin H Gott are upbound on the St Mary's River right now on their way to Two Harbors MN... Looks like they got some ice there.

Tug/barge Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departing into a Nor'easter this morning with ore for Indiana Harbor. Duluth, MN - March 23, 2025. He's doing the north shore route.

The Gott upbound out of the Soo Locks for the first time this season. They are headed for Two Harbors, MN. 3-23-25 One of my favorite boats.

Just observational thinking...

Interesting how the Gott has just a "wrap around" bow. No curves or apparent fluid dynamics design. Likely a trade off to create the most storage area possible.

Wonder if the potential inefficiency of the design (for fuel consumption) is compensated by the added payload?
