My late Dad hid keys like this, I don't know if he thought it up. Yesterday I needed to hide two keys in a shed. It's just a scrap of lumber I used a router to make a pocket. One deck screw at top holds it. Just swing it out for keys. Swung back it just looks like part of the door.

Good idea - I have lost most of the keys to garage and barn access doors - this would keep them in one place.

I do have a question - why are the keys on the inside of the building? From the picture, it appears the locking nub you turn is on this side of the door, and the key slot is on the outside? How do you get in?

I guess I still live in a "high trust" part of the US. I have never locked my door and my keys are always in the vehicle.

I feel bad for people that don't get to experience high trust society livin...it's pleasant.

We live in a very low crime area & here 45 years. We have neighbors house keys & they have ours.
Those keys are for tack room inside horse stable. I carry door key with me (picture shown). Believe it or not I use almost every key every day. They weigh 3 pounds!
If someone wants in bad enough it's not difficult breaking in. A spare house key would be better away from the house a ways and not under the doormat!

On a car or truck before key fobs, I'd tape one on the harness for that one emergency!
Every vehicle I have owned, and every company vehicle ive had, had a key hidden on it somewhere. Learned my lesson years ago in a company truck working 5 hours from home and couldnt find my keys.
Luckily I found them but since then ive always had a spare.
At my remote hunting properties. 2-3 hours from home. First thing i do is make spare keys for the gates etc and hide them near the property. I had one that hung on a speed limit sign post for probably 12 years. It may even still be there.

At least three people in town have keys to our house. Plus I'm a pretty handy burglar. From past experience, burgling is faster than waiting for a friend with a key. :p

One of our kids is buying a house. It's on a well. They couldn't find the well. I told them to look under the fake rock next to the house. They said what fake rock? I said look around. I'll bet there's either a fake rock or a wishing well in the yard. They found it under a fake rock. :ROFLMAO:

Same here - we have keys or codes to the neighbor's houses and they ours. We don't lock our outbuildings or equipment - just don't leave the keys in the cars anymore.

Still trying to figure out how those keys work FuddyDuddy on the other side of the lock?

I think he said they are for rooms inside of the building.

Walk in door has key lock on outside. Shown is inside barn, tack room keys hidden under board. So walk in, tack room keys are right there. In tack room we get grain & lock door.
It's hard forgetting keys back because board is swung out near knob.

Ah I get it now - this is the inside of the tack room, inside the barn. makes sense now.

Well, no...as Moss said, a building with rooms inside. One walk in door gets you into building, flip-out key holder gets you into rooms inside building.
