Hey guys, I’m wanting an easier mower to load on the trailer than my batwing, and I want something a little bigger than my six foot mower I already have. I’m thinking either 7 or 8 ft. I would prefer the 8’, but they measure another half foot or so which I think would be wider than the legal limit for roads. So I assume I’m stuck with a 7’ mower. It does not seem like a real common size, so how happy are y’all with the few 7’ mowers out there?

Actually, the 'legal' limit for width on any highway in the United States is 104" which equates to 8.66 feet without an overwidth permit.

Your only concern would be if your unit is capable of running an 8 foot wide shredder.

That and if the shredder will fit between the fenders of your trailer, if applicable.

I own both a batwing as well as a 7 foot Landpride shredder and each has their specific uses.

i considered a 7' cutter, but sure glad i went with an 8' twin outboard 3ph. no question it runs smoother compared to the large 7' single blades i'd certainly go 8' lift type, but sounds like transport has limits. in a way a 7' cutter is sort of a bastard size. good luck

Interesting comment as neither my batwing nor my flat back shredder have any vibration issues.
`in general, twin spindle units are smoother than single, esp when a 7' single spindle hits something. twins are also shorter in length than single units.

I think it is 102".
Actually, it's 104. I know that because back when I drove big trucks, the Reitnauer aluminum flatbeds we pulled were curtainside units and the bare trailers were 102's. When you added the curtainside rails it took the width out to 104 and DOT considered that legal. The curtainside rails mounted to the stock rub rails. My last couple years prior to retirement, I was the fleet safety and compliance officer.

One reason why my round bailer rolls 4 foot width bales. Guy down the road has a JD round baler that rolls 5 wide bales and he got busted up town hauling them side by side on his Gooseneck. State cop wrote him for an overwidth load.

Good to know, I never shipped anything with curtainside trailer.
