I'll just have water

I remember my mom ironing those patches to the inside of my jeans, because that looked more acceptable than outside, I guess. But it was like having a stiff and scratchy bit of fiberglass board against a delicate knee at age 4. :ROFLMAO:
I hated those iron-on patches too. Not only were they stiff, but they didn't stick very well either. A few washings, and they'd already started to peel off around the edges.
My mom once bought me some store brand jeans from Kmart for school use only. She was so proud of the low cost. I had to go to Jr. High with pants that had no pockets.
Would this have been in the late 60s/early 70s? It seemed a fashion fad for a couple years to do away with pockets in men's pants, or only put in one or two, that were often as not too small to fit a wallet in. 🤬

Give me cargo pants any day of the week!

Thats funny. I’m a middle-aged farmer, yet almost never wear/wore jeans.
I think thats more of a hollywood stereotype than reality.
Most of us here in “coastal PA” wear canvas or duck “dickies/carhartt ” type work pants.
Maybe shorts when stupid hot..
As someone who grew up in the 60s when jeans were almost a requirement, I've also started to move towards those same kind of pants. More comfortable, roomier in the legs and seem to stand up better. Can often stand in for dress pants on the few occasions I have to go somewhere I have to look nice.
Shorts whenever possible.

I was looking at the motor in front of that with the blue dot- didn't see the one behind!
Oh! Yeah... then there may have been a Baldor or two in there, as well. Too many have gone under the bridge to remember them all.

I just tossed a Baldor 7.5 hp 3ph motor at the dump last year. Brand new, nothing wrong with it, but listing it on C'list and ebay failed to sell it, so I just trashed it. I have no interest in new motors, they look out of place in this 250 year old shop full or 100 year old machinery, but thought someone would want it for a rotary phase converter.

It’s the kind with the elbow patch which is a style.

My co-workers notice and the wife of one was a very good dress maker that could make anything… she said such a nice coat and asked what I did to wear out the elbows…?

I said it’s a common style in America and she shook her head…
I used to see teachers/college professors wearing jackets like that, almost never in the business world.

Ya, 1970s, but i dont recall any of my friends having pants without pockets.

I mean really, what kid didnt have something to carry in his pockets?

I would have been in my early 20s at the time, so don't know about kids' clothes. Pretty stupid idea for mens' clothes too. These weren't jeans, these were what would be considered business casual today.
Fortunately, that fad didn't last long. Who thinks to check and see if pants have pockets when you buy them?

Most all of us have had financial rough times in the past. And probably do things by habit. So the question is;

What is a "poor people" habit you'll never stop doing, no mater how rich you get?

I just have water at a restaurant.
If I see a penny, I will pick it up off the ground.
And many more.
I forgo garbage service in lieu of dropping it in the dumpster at work, likewise I fill gallon jugs of water at work for drinking at home. Those 2 things combined are probably saving me about $1000/year. There are many others like grinding our own meat, buying in bulk, paying annually rather than monthly etc.

Frog. Pocket knife. Loose change. Slingshot....
When my thirteen-year-old son and I leave the property together for a trip to the store, I usually ask him, "Kyle, do you have your wallet and pocketknife? Where's your belt? Don't you want to wear a hat?" He just laughs.
