I remember when we announced to our family and friends we were getting married (it will be 45 yrs last of November). She was 17 I was 18. I was working at a convenient store, no real thoughts on the bigger picture of life. One of my wife's friends mom said, "what ya'll gonna do live off a love". We did, and still do. We both laugh at that.

Our families helped guide us along both in role modeling and mentoring, never through correcting. They stayed out of our inner business as we also never advertised it to them or anyone else. Relying on each other for support or help.

We got tired of being poor. We started working towards our future through education, hard work, risk taking and purely being blessed from the Lord.

Oh as RayIn said 100% is the magic number. I'd say she has given much more than I towards that 100%. I'd also say adding a lot of laughter into a marriage is VERY good. I have given her lots to laugh about over the years. It also helps I married up for sure. :)

Our mission isn't complete, we now mentor and coach our children/grandchildren and even a great grandchild in life. Not as winners nor a success but as stewards of what was blessed to us. Love is the guiding factor, so yes we "live off a Love".

All women are crazy, but the flavor of crazy varies. You need to find a flavor of crazy you can live with, or even prefer.
I met my ex at 20 and she was 17.
Dated during my time in University and got married aboot a year after. We lasted 3 years.
She changed. The real crazy seemed to appear after the ink dried on the marriage certificate.
I won't get into details but everything became extremes, food/diet, friends...
So I started to date again at 30.
By that time the ones who hadn't been married yet... well there were good reasons.
The divorced ones tended to have kids that I wasn't interested in and all the resultant baggage + crazy.
Never did find the one.
But I've had a great time searching.

Feel bad for young men. Too much risk and very little reward for marriage.

I got a call last week, from my Daughter's boyfriend. I was on the road, and he had figured out that I wouldn't be home before they left town for the long weekend. He asked permission to ask for Her hand in marriage. We waited until LATE Saturday night before the call came in from my Daughter. Yep, She is engaged! She couldn't believe that all of us knew of the upcoming question, but like we told Her, the question wasn't the big deal, it was the answer She gave him that mattered! (She said yes!) They have birthdays next to each other, he being 12 hours older than my Daughter.
I hope they last longer than we have, with more blessings! (We just had our 43rd last week and are blessed)

I didn't know this was still practiced. What we he have done if you said no?
My wifes niece is getting married in November of this year. Her and her fiance are already living together so I'm not sure what is the point of an expensive wedding. My understanding is this is more common.

I was surprised to get that phone call. They recently moved in together in an apartment and yes I was volunteered to bring my truck and enclosed trailer! I keep saying I am going to find someone who will take that trailer for $100 so I can quit moving people! Every smart person i try to get to take it realizes it will cost them the same way it costs me! They want more than $100 to take it!
I asked my Bride if She was surprised at the phone call, and She said no. She said She knew he would do it right. I told Her that I was surprised at him asking for my permission, as I figured that went out the window when they moved in together. I told Her that he didn't ask for my permission to move in with her, why ask now. She said, "What would you have said if he had asked for permission to move in with my Daughter. I guess the only question would have been, 12 or 20... meaning the guage of buckshot he wanted sent his way?
He appears to be good for my Daughter, not sure if my Daughter is good for him, as She can be a handful!

Wow. If I got a phone call from a guy asking for my daughters hand in marriage, who already is having relations with her and having moved into a dwelling together I would laugh my a$$ off.
I would tell him he has already taken more than her hand in marriage and to go down to the Justice of the Peace if he is that interested.

My daughter’s boyfriend asked me if it was ok to ask her to marry him. I said if I said no I’d bet you’d ask her anyway wouldn’t you? He said probably. I told him I wouldn’t respect him if he said otherwise and it didn’t matter what I said it matters what she says. They got engaged, bought a place together before getting married, then a year later the lawyers are fighting on how much money my daughter gets after the break up.

I'm living aboot 50/50 between the new to me condo and my hobby farm.
The condo is mostly older/seniors with many single/widow women.
I ain't so young but to them I'm fresh meat.
I've had many a baked good and invite to dinner/coffee brought to my door.
I'm a Dinocooter play thing.
They watch for me coming and going and the gossip flies. Often they meet me in the hallways by "coincidence" They know who I've spoken with and usually have something unflattering to say aboot their competition.
I'm not interested in some spoiled brats grandma.
But I also don't want to be rude aboot it.
So!
I still have my GT at the old homestead.
Just to get the gossip wheels turning I picked up a stunning blonde rental and brought her to the condo in said GT.
I parked in my outside parking space and walked in to make sure we were seen.
The jungle drums sure beat out a steady tune.
They didn't like finding out blondie wasn't my granddaughter. No need to tell them the whole story. Totally unsuitable to be a girlfriend.🧐 They sure didn't like when I showed up with an Asian lady a few days later. Funniest thing was the snort one of the grannies made as we walked past her.
Grannies don't bother me as much anymore.😂
Worth the cost and I did have a great time.
