The fireplace was painstakenly removed.

Unfortunate, it was deemed easier to remove than work around. Plus the flloors never matched up, room to room.

Still married. :)

So I need some thoughts on insulation in the older areas of my farm house- specifically under the wood floors.

The foundation is stone, I'll need to mortar off the cracks when it gets warmer.

I have about 18 inches of space between my wood floor and the GROUND. The wood floors are cold. I am thinking about crawling under the house and putting up roll up insulation between the joists.

Would I need a vapor barrier?

Is it too close to the ground to do this?

Other ideas, welcome.

If there's pretty good access between the floor joists, sheet styro insulation cut to just fit between them works pretty good. FIL did that at his cabin and floors stay much warmer. He used 1by strips to help hold it in. the stuff he used has a vapor barrier "skin" that is even bug resistant.
