Kioti CK20 HST
Hi all-

Got all 5 filters during Christmas time to do 400 hour service (plan to do front axle too).

I searched but couldn't find -- I thought I remember someone warning when adding engine oil to add it to the engine in a particular place that is NOT the valve cover as it can cause some kind of damage? I haven't looked at engine or manual (maybe there isn't even a valve cover opening) -- is there a filler tube? I just thought I remember a horror story about adding oil through the valve cover or somewhere at the top of the engine and it wrecking something due to oil being up in the head or something. Any truth to this? (yeah I'm overly cautious ... it pays to be paranoid sometimes!)

Also -- I have Tractor supply very close to me -- what is the best hydraulic/HST oil for Kioti CK-20H. I heard they have 5 gallon buckets and gallon containers of a tractor supply brand that works well and meets requirements listed in manual?

Thanks for any info. Hoping to do the service one of these upcoming weekends.

Do not add the engine oil to the valve cover fill location, it will not drain to the oil pan fast enough and can cause engine damage. See attached picture

As for the oil from Tractor Supply as long as it is a Universial tractor hydrulic oil that is suitable for hydraulics and brakes you should be fine, is it a 303 oil or UTF? Oil Fill CK.JPG

TSC normally stocks a few different Universal Tractor Hydraulic Trans Fluid options. Their own Premium may be a couple dollar more than the a lesser versions they stock for their rock bottom price conscience buyers, but I believe it worth it. It is still far less in cost than dealer prices, as a rule, but it is pretty good stuff, blended and packed by Warren Oil, a reputable company.

If you have wet brakes or clutches, buy a premium hydro oil that says it's OK for wet brakes.

The newer CK20s don't have a side fill. They only have a valve cover fill location.

Roger on the valve cover fill

I filled mine through the top in the rocker/valve cover. No other place to do it at, unless I suck it in through the drain hole, and don't see that happening.

Why would an engine mfg put a oil fill cap on the valve cover (normal place to fill on all car engines) if it would damage the engine. Who pours in a gallon of oil so fast that it cant drain into the sump? Anyway, it looks like Kioti corrected the problem and eliminated the side fill which is backward from what I would have done. I would have taken out the valve cover fill hole and left the side hole where it would go directly into the crankcase. This would have facilitated more accurate gauging of oil level when filling rather that waiting for oil to drain down, although I wouldn't see this as a problem unless the oil was very cold and thick, like below 0F or something.

Kinda off topic, but how do you like your mid mount mower? How much yard do you mow with it. When I bought my ck20hst, it came with a 3 point brush hog and finish mower (use the finish mower the most) as I have about 3 acres open ground to mow and 10 acres of woods to maintain.

Thanks

Thanks guys. This is exactly what I was looking for.

On the midmount question I love my midmount mower. Search for posts by me to see fresh cut lawn with dmm60 it cuts better than my old wheelhorse classic 315.

The dmm is italian made and very solid 7 years on original belt. 2 sets of blades... Toolless on off just 6 pins. I've heard the other mmm that is not the dmm60 can eat belts and has other issues I don't have with the dmm. Changed tranny oil at 50 hours and I keep it greased it is my most used attachment and very strong.

It hasn't been made for years now. So you may have to stick with an rfm. If u can find a dmm I think you would like it.

Good luck!
