Attached a couple of pics of the factory option block heater I had added. Had a chance to give it a try this morning after a couple days of temps in the single digits. Put it on a timer to turn on 4 hours prior to startup and works very well block was nice and warm, started easier and didn’t sound like it was going to rattle itself apart like sometimes happens with real cold weather. $150 installed seems like a good purchase though I wish the cord was bit shorter but I will fix that eventually.

That's great. I always enjoyed the sound of a warm startup when it was really cold. A suggestion - I would get your 120V power cord a little further away from such close proximity to the engine block. Heat from the engine could, possibly, cause damage to that cord. You are sure correct - that cord looks long enough to go around the block 2X. Perhaps when you shorten it - a better location will be apparent.

I absolutely agree. Going to shorten and Zip-tie that cord away from the actual block. Not a big deal at the moment since even with cardboard on the radiator it doesn’t really get hot enough for the thermostat to open up. Longest cord I have ever seen on a block heater installed in the smallest diesel engine I own! lol

I agree, when I went to plow after work today the block was warm enough the glow plugs didn't even energize even though it was 10 degrees outside.

A couple years ago I order a Snap Disc thermostat from 257 Thermostat Switch, Flush Mount Notched Bracket | Senasys and wired it inline in the extension cord out to the tractor so the block heater automatically turns on when it drops below 5 degrees F and then turns off if the outside temperature rises above 15 degrees F. Now during the cold months I just plug it in when I park and forget about it, if it gets cold the heater kicks on but i'm not cooking it when it's warm.

You must have cheap power! The block heater uses about 500w of power or 1kw every 2 hrs if I did that here in Maine this past month it would be an extra $80 on my power bill!

I guess I should clarify, I do not leave it plugged in all winter, only when 1) it is going to be cold, and 2) I know a storm is coming...then I plug it in and forget about it when I park it because I know I will be back on it within the next day or two. During the weeks of no snow or when it isn't that cold I don't usually have it plugged in.

I connected mine with the tp-link HS105 outlet. Couple hours before I go out I turn the outlet on with the app...or use my Google home. Works Great!!!

I like the idea of phone start outlet. I could turn it on when I leave work. By the time I get ready to plow it should be ready, it would give me about 1hour head start
