Was installing a culvert today, had finished with my mini and moved to the tractor to finish filling in gravel and suddenly the loader stopped lowering. I pulled up the boot on the joystick and everything was tight. I had the guy I was working for move the lever while I checked underneath. Pulling the lever ack to raise the bucket everything worked fine, and when he let go it popped back to neutral, but when he pushed forward it wouldn't move. I got the loader lowered by using a Crescent on the arm that the cable connects to. The valve worked fine in both directions using the Crescent. Everything was tight on the cable underneath too. I finished the job using the mini and tore into the control when I got home. The cable appears to have come apart internally. It works fine pulling but in compression it has about 3/8 inch movement like there was a spring inside. Has anyone had something like this happen? It appears that the crimped ferrule on one end has failed but it is impossible to say for sure until I can get a new one. Maybe it was for the best because I had a lot of work planned for this weekend and I should be enjoying the holiday.

Cable loader controls??? Mine is direct linkage.:confused3:
You must have the cab? Just checked parts book. It is quite possible your cable failed. Not common but it does happen. Is it still under warranty?

You more then likely checked, but did you check the quick couplers?

Less than a month out of warranty. That's my luck.

Couplers wouldn't be a problem because the loader works fine if I use my Crescent wrench to work the raise/lower function. I can watch the control. The cable will pull the valve, but it won't push it.

Doesn't sound like this is a very common problem. I have had experience selecting cables for controls. This is what I would consider a top of the line product from one of the premier cable control suppliers (from the supplier name on the cable they are generally out of my price range) but even the best can have defects. Materials, sealing, all top notch, but I have never seen a cable fail this way.

Got the new cable 12 days after it failed. Took about an hour to install and button the console back up. Working fine gain. It looks like that last push to the float position puts major stress on the cable. Hope Kubota took this into consideration because I sure would hate to have a repeat during snow season. This control is not in my workshop manual but the replacement and cable adjustment is pretty straight forward.

That's good you are back up and running again. Do you have a open station machine or cab? Just curious as I am now wondering if my loader control is direct linkage or cable (5240 open station).

It is a cab version. When I find out what it costs I might spring for a spare because at least on my tractor the force to push it into float is quite large and I push it into float every time I get off the tractor. Somebody said the open platform design doesn't use the cable so you should be okay.

What is the reason for going to float when not on the tractor? Not saying it is wrong, just curious?
