I recently picked up a few older garden tractors in various stages of disrepair. The existing wiring is a mess in each of them. I've got one that uses a solenoid, one with an old regulator, one that looks like it was wired through the ignition switch, etc. None of them work as intended. I'd really like to simplify the whole lot by gutting them and rewiring from scratch.

Does anyone have (or know where to get) a generic wiring diagram for these small tractors electric start engines & headlight circuits?

Thanks! That's perfect. It answers most of my questions except for battery charging.

If I understand the diagram correctly, the black wire that runs from the stator would connect to the "line" side of a headlight switch (or other accessory). The red wire would be for charging of the battery. Do I simply run the red wire back to the positive terminal on the battery (assuming the in-line diode is in place)?
