Haven't figured it out yet; first order of business was swapping the water out before winter as it's starting to get cold at night.
Previous owner did share that the tractor had been left outside the past few years, despite being covered earlier in its life.
I will be keeping it covered and...
UPDATE and a question for those following along (Thank you for the tips and support!)
I drained the milkshake, emptied and re-installed the two hydraulic oil filters and filled up with ~4 Gals of TSC premium hydraulic fluid (total capacity is 4.23 Gal). Fired up and drove around / moved the...
Yep I am racing against the clock to at least get flush the system once this week and get all that waterlogged oil out ASAP. Starting to dip below freezing in the evenings here in New England
Thanks!
I purchased the Traveller Universal premium tractor fluid from Tractor Supply.
I'm not yet sure how to check whether I have wet or dry brakes and clutches. Does anybody know for a New Holland TC26DA?
Update: I cleaned, re-seated and re-installed the old oil filter, and no leaks!
Am quite confident the gasket had come loose. Now, the filter is on at least a half turn tighter than it was. New filter is on the way.
Feel free to point me to the best resources for draining and refilling...
For posterity, I'll also include the actual CNH filter part here, which I believe is also an acceptable replacement filter.
The two parts I found are:
• $50 NEW HOLLAND AGRICULTURE - Hydraulic Filter - SBA340501030 New Holland SBA340501030 FILTER
• $27 FILTER HYDRAULIC OI - 47671640 (listed...
This post seems to describe exactly the issue that I have (wishful thinking at least)... the filter was not on very tight (I was able to take it off with my bare hands without much struggle, and also it was the "wix" replacement part rather than the NH filter which is built for higher pressure.
I think I found the right HST filter from NH:

Going to order one and try it out.
Appears my tractor has already been down that road and now sports some of the scars from a weld job like they mention. Praying they hold up!
I will def do the cleaning/foot powder option once I have fixed the filter issue. IMO signs are pointing to that being the source of my leak at the...
Interesting post I came across... It looks like the filter I had on is the Wix 557088, but a few reports of blown gaskets are here, stating that the New Holland filters are built to withstand more pressure to prevent that from happening. Now to see if I can track down one of the more powerful...
Yea, tractor had been left outside in the past, previous owner told me it would need new hydraulic oil. Have been keeping it covered since I got it. And hoping (with a bit of luck) I can get it up to proper maintenance schedule and keep the oil clean from there on out. Will be on the hunt for...
