PTO Shaft w/o Set Screw -- Safe/OK for Post Hole/Auger?

Recently purchased a used 3pt post hole attachment, at auction; it has a logo referencing Green Manufacturing, in Bowling Green. PTO shaft says 53" compressed metric (6 spline on tractor end, smooth/round bore on implement end, with a roll pin shear pin and a set screw on implement yoke. Since...

    JD 2640 Tire/Wheel Size Options?

Thanks for the reply. Meanwhile, found the following in the 2440/2640 manual: "The travel speeds shown are for tractors with 16.9-28 or 18.4-30** rear tires. Speeds would be 4% slower with 13.6-38 tires, 3% slower with 14.9-28* tires, 3% faster with 15.5-38 tires, 9% slower with 16.9-24 tires...

    JD 2640 Tire/Wheel Size Options?

Have 18.4 x 30's on Dad's 2640 right now, but tires are showing small cracks on sidewalls, and are likely from 1980's era, so would like to replace, with decent used, if I can find some. Inner axle bolt pattern is 8 bolts, on 9.5" diameter 'hub', outer wheel edge has 9 bolt pattern, on approx...

John Deere 2640 - Starter Relay Location?

Will do -- would voltage drop always occur with corroded batt cable(s) or could it be necessary sometimes to detect this by measuring current? The corrosion under insulation had not occurred to me, either. Good to know.

John Deere 2640 - Starter Relay Location?

I do know my 2640 has a solenoid mounted on the starter motor (just above it) -- was going to bypass it except the + side had a shield which required partial dismantling to access.

John Deere 2640 - Starter Relay Location?

Will do, and resistor makes sense on low beam. Thanks!

John Deere 2640 - Starter Relay Location?

Thanks -- I don't get any activity though prior to starting attempt either. So glow plugs light never comes on, nor any other panel lights. Yet battery voltage is 13+ (good idea though to monitor voltage the whole time -- I'll give that a try).

John Deere 2640 - Starter Relay Location?

Thank you -- had no idea starter relay was optional (another item I wish were mentioned in the service manual) I confirmed the negative batter cable is running to the engine block. I will check the neutral start switch, though may not be until this weekend. There also is a circuit breaker...

John Deere 2640 - Starter Relay Location?

Anyone else have a JD 2640 and know where the starter relay is actually located? I have the tech manual, but the one pic it has for this is grainy and has an arrow pointing to (upper corner under the right cowl) what I've confirmed is actually the voltage regulator (which is square -- the relay...

Planters  JD John Deere 494A Planter/Plates Setup Advice?

A few years ago, I picked up a John Deere 494A planter, along with a number of metal planter plates. Fertilizer bins are shot, but seed bins seem fine, albeit I am a bit fuzzy how the planter plates exactly should install in the seed bin base -- bins fold up, plates fit underneath, however there...

    JD 2640 Intermittent No Cranking

Hi Guys, recently inherited my Dad's JD 2640. Have been having to jump start it; suspected very poor batteries (has 2), but now am not so sure. Topped off water in each cell of both batteries (almost 1 cup in each cell!), and they seemed to respond very well to recharging (bank reads now 13.6v...

Troybilt - any models with changeable tine rotation?

Am I mis-remembering or did some Troy model tillers have the ability to switch between forward and reverse rotation of tines? If this was an option, does anyone recall which model(s) had this ability?

Troybilt Tiller: Which to buy - 6HP vs 8HP Horse?

Looking for advice/comparisons of older 6HP vs 8HP Horse tillers -- does the extra 2HP make a big difference with larger gardens (may do 2500 sqft this year) and/or rocky or clay soil? Other factors: 6HP is a Tecumseh, comes with hiller 8HP is a Kohler, w/electric start; (and would be $150...
