    Propane questions

I'd like to thank everyone for their contribution. I'm sorry if my post caused issues between members. Thanks to all of your comments, I now feel confident I can discuss my needs with my local co-op and be able to engage in a meaningful conversation. Some additional info: 1. My existing tank...

    Propane questions

I currently have a 200 gallon propane tank. It supplies my kitchen range and my furnace, although the furnace isn't used because of the wood stove. I am thinking about getting a propane conversion kit for my 9KW gasoline powered generator. The conversion kit comes with a regulator that is...

    Lyme Disease

Where I live in Nothern MN, the ticks started early this year and there are lots of them. Not uncommon to pull 10 or 20 off the dog each day. He goes outside for bathroom breaks and hangs out with me when I'm working. I usually will find a half dozen on me each day and wonder how many of them...

    Saving Money as Prices Increase

I've decided I didn't need to cut what we had been calling our "yard", about 1.5 to 2 acres. I used to burn 2 tanks of gas in the lawn mower, now I'm down to one. So the gas prices have more than doubled and I cut my consumption in half. Almost a win but not quite. I've baled enough hay in...

What are you paying for ground beef

The local social media marketplace had packaged hamburger listed for $5 a pound the last time I noticed....local mom & pop butcher shop. That's been a month or two ago. It had been $4 for a number of years. We quit hamburger about 7 years ago. When I retired and moved back home to northern...

    Ground squirrels

Here on the farm, we call them striped gophers. And they do considerable damage in the garden until they no longer breathe. The ones we have will go from one plant to the next....say....cucumbers. They will take a bite or two out of a cucumber, move to the next, bite that one a few times...

To Chicken or not to Chicken?

We get chicks every spring and keep them for about 8 weeks.....then it's butchering day and into the freezer they go. Living in northern MN, I've no desire to winter over chickens.

    Hose bib leaking.

Agreed, the supplied washers seem to be undersized. I throw them away and put a rubber washer in there....the kind you have to fight with to get it fully seated. Problem resolved.

    Bird flu got me...

We got our meat chickens a week ago. Lost one thus far, 2nd night, but doubt it was bird flue. Not uncommon to have one die within a day or two of them arriving. Getting shipped USPS can't be the easiest thing for them to endure although they do ship a lot of them that way. We got a dozen...

    No mo' hard drives

They are getting reasonably priced, IMO. I just checked...a quick search found a SATA 2.5" 1TB drive, $79.99. If I lost a hard drive today, I would get one like that....I can live with $80 + tax.

    Experience with catalytic wood stoves

I find it interesting, such as in this thread, concerning the amount of wood used during a heating season. Rarely does anyone ever comment on the status of their house. How many square feet, how much insulation, the quality of the windows, wall thickness, how many cold days (ie., -30F to -40F)...

    Firewood business with my son

Sounds like a great business venture. I wish more kids had this kind of opportunity (and parents) for doing this kind of thing.

    Home Depot veteran discount expanded.

When you check out, you bring up the HD app on your cell phone and access your account. At that point, you scan the QR code on your phone's screen to get the military discount. Where I live, the discount covers the sales tax and I'm not complaining.

    Tater Time

With about 2 1/2 feet of snow on the ground and -31F this morning, I'm holding off on planting my potatoes for a few more weeks. ;) That being said, I do need to go snap off the eyes on my potatoes in the cold room. We get the Colorado beetles up here too. I use a diatomaceous earth...

I have owned my last 2 wheel drive pickup

I have an '02 Ford Ranger that can get stuck way too easily. It and snow do not get along very well to say the least. Since it only has 95K miles on it, I'm not sure how much longer I'll have to keep it before I get rid of it.
