When I start the tractor and push the clutch in the PTO engages and it will not go in gear. Any help is appreciated thanks aaron

I have a 1996 jd 5400 4x4. The tractor won't go into park. The shifter goes over to the park position but has no tesion on it. It's like a pin or something came out cause the shifter wobbles around but won't pull off. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
